MM is absolutely wrong in his opinions. It appears he is yet to have the experience of how terrible such employers are here. MM: suggest you don't give new-comers the view that all is very rosy here. By not providing him the ticket the company has shown its "true colors."

NEVER pay anything. If a company wants you in Qatar THEY must bear ALL expenses (by law!).

MM: I must disagree with you here. By paying for his visa, Air ticket etc, the company is at least showing commitment.

requesting payment is totally wrong in my opinion

Milind , All this may be reimbursed to you once you join ............ On the telephone some clerks give a standard answer that is sometimes for junior staff only ............ so better confirm it with your Dept Head or HR ladies for real situation ............ Don't refuse to your job at this moment ......... just demand the money you will spend on ticket & taxi etc ............ this issue can be resolved ........... remember .... What can be resolved amicably can't be resolved by strife , as Wuna has mis-advised to you ........... People like him are enjoying huge salary in Qatari Riyals plus free QL access while being on duty ............... there may be a trace of jealousy { @ Wuna } as somebody else also got a job in Qatar

That is illegal according to the Labor Law. If this is how they are treating you now, then DO NOT join this company under any circumstances.

Just wanted to correct britexpats comment: They wont put you under their thumb once you are onboard. That is just too good a statement. They will put you under their boots.

There is something seriously wrong with the management of this company. As britexpat and chameleon have rightly pointed out, they have already given you a good indication of what type of people they are. In our part of the world there is a saying: You can know the condition of the entire pot of boiling rice by checking just a single grain. Suggest you refuse the job offer. Most of such companies here bring in the employees here first by meeting all the expenses, and then start playing their dirty games on them. Your new employer has gone a step further than the others.

I would have second thoughts of joining this company if I were you. At least you were already given warning what kind of company you are going to work for. This is just the joining stage. Imagine what other abuses you will be encountering upon joining the company.

I don't believe this is legal . The company must be responsible for your your mobilization and demobilization costs.

Look at it this way. If the company is acting in such a manner now. How will they treat you once you are onboard and under their thumb.
