banning is not the answer, they have a chat tab, go in their and spam....we dont need people telling us what we can or can not read, we dont need people telling us what is or is not offensive, and i might get flamed for this, but who give a hoot, when you see a site that slams what you believe in, go in, read it, study it, research the facts that they provide, know what the other sides thinks for a change, and then come up with a response, problems with arabs is the refusal to take in any other point of view other than their own, hence the reason arabs are portrayed as backward and extremists....

By fubar• 3 Feb 2009 22:10

Why ban it?

Muslims aren't going to have their perceptions of Islam altered by videos posted on the internet.

And people around the world who are anti-Islam don't live in Qatar, so banning it here won't make any real difference.

The only point you may end up proving is that Muslims are xenophobic people who can't bear the notion of other people having an opinion of their own. That's not a reputation you ought to aspire to.

That's what living in a censored world can do to SOME people - you are unable to grasp the concept of others having a different view from you and believing different things. Hence if it is doesn't agree with your views it must be banned!

Regardless of whether what's said in the video is right or wrong, it's just someone's view. You don't have to agree with it. But you don't have to ban it either.

By tallg• 3 Feb 2009 20:22

tabrez - read the comments people took the time to write in response to your post, and then you'll know how to request the site is blocked.

I will help ban any site that insults any religion WHEN AND IF there is religious tolerance all round. But then when that happens there would be no need for threads like this!

Hello Boon (Owner of the group),

Or if you really wanna put it you can see the debates in our group. I know that definately there will be a big debate on this. But as far as I know about MHO it does not have any religion but this video will definately hurt all the muslims brothers and sisters in this group. I think your wording is wrong

"just asking you to avoid such Videos which PROVES Mohammed (P.B.U.H) wrong "

change "proves" to "claims"

"Deaths in the Bible. God - 2,270,365

not including the victims of Noah's flood, Sodom and Gomorrah, or the

many plagues, famines, fiery serpents, etc because no specific numbers

My Freind,

I am not taking the initiative step bcoz I dont know how to do it. In fact, I already requested the owner of it to remove that video from his site. He never replied. So I am looking for a scource where every on should come to know what kind of group it is we have many of our muslim friends in that group who are unaware of this. I just need a scource from where I can just tell them all about this video they will automatically put pressure on that owner to remove it from his site. That guys emial id is [email protected] I request if he gets many emails from our side on removing that video he will definately remove it...

DMS, Muslims do get upset when people insult the Prophet Jesus (PBUH), check out the "Return of the Jesus" thread, that was a doozey.

I also would like to see such sites shit down, but reality dictates otherwise. I also have to put the shoe on the other foot. Back in Canada some people dont take well to my Gaza opinions, but I get to say what I feel and at least be respected for taking a stand. If everything was censored due to one group or another be offended we would actually live in a sad world. We are educated by such things. In this instance, this has raised awareness in people, and also motivated the poster to defend his religion. In doing so, maybe he will research, study etc... In some instances, the people posting this stuff dont know they are wrong. Maybe the poster will contact them and they will too be educated.

there are misguiding hadeeths, even fake Quran

how can you block them

Read this fabricated verse

The following verse is from the Koran, (the Islamic Bible)

Koran ( 9:11 ) - For it is written that a son of Arabia would awaken a fearsome Eagle.. The wrath of the Eagle would be felt throughout the lands of Allah and lo, while some of the people trembled in despair still more rejoiced; for the wrath of the Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah;

instead of insulting and bashing others religions ...

Why don't these people just speak of their religion, let the others know about their religion and make it something informative instead of building such websites for nothing but spreading hatred and bad feelings?

There is nothing wrong about talking about your religion, how great it is or let the others know what do you believe in ...

The bad thing is when you would be from another religion and design a website to insult and attack others believes ...

Of course ... no one would appreciate the other religion as it make sense only to it's followers no matter what is it all about.

What would not make sense to you, would make to the others ...

So nothing here but Respecting the other religion and believes.

Making fun or questioning why others can't speak bad about others religion ... Is totally a different story ...

There are thousands of sites on the web that insult my beliefs, I simply don't read them, or if I do read them and well I don't agree with and am insulted by what they say I know they are entitled to what they believe.

I don't agree with Holocaust denial sites, but I'm not out there trying to shut them down because the people who make them have a right to their opinions.

I personally dont' agree with a single thing posted on Islam online and find much of it personally insulting, but I'm not trying to shut that down either, I just don't read it.

The only sites which should be shut down are in which someone is physically hurt in the creation of it, ie: child pornography sites.

===========================================

The countries which practice "Free of speech"; also have Free of Speech Acts approved by the representatives of its citizens. QTel freedom of speech policy should be driven by some kind of Qatar Freedom of Speech Act. However, I do not think it’s the case as it allows the respective site to be visited along with many others, but restricts access to sites such as www.qatarsucks.com 

In my personal view – there should be no sensor on any site except adult/ child pornographic materials and sites. Rest of the decision should be left to the citizens. By not visiting a site, we are proofing our point. For adult site – they are visual – and our kids are vulnerable to such explicit visual images just by hitting a few buttons or clicks.

By anonymous• 3 Feb 2009 12:17

that's why I hold you high for your views. But of course, religion should be always taken in general, not individually. Because if it is individually, then what's the need for the religion? One's personal conviction is under the umbrella of the religion. One must comply with all the basic doctrines, if not, then why the need to stay? Sometimes, Amoud, you just need to read between my lines to understand our conviction.

It is not that I agree Da, it is just tricky to censor.

For instance, I think Scientologists are insane (have you seen the silent birthing that is required?) I am free to say so correct? It is just my opinion, it may be complete crap but it is what it is (Tom Cruise will be suing me soon for this one).

DMS, as per your own advice you may also be very cautious as to how you generalize and group us all into the same ball of yarn. There are nutters everywhere my friend, but being in an Islamic country you will definately find people more verbal about this sort of thing as many do feel that as Islam is the pre-dominatory religion of the country that perhaps it should be respected a little more on the homefront.

DMS, you come into almost every post and throw in the "lack of muslim religious tolerance" card and expect what? Thanks from the sites muslim community? ____________________________________________________

Very true Tallg, and IMO if people dont want to look at this stuff, simply use parental control on your PC at home. Heck, if Q-tel wanted to they could offer a control prog to those who want it.

I must say I dont mind them blocking porn sites, but hate when they block medical sites and freaking lingerie sites but allow us to all have showtime, which is pretty uncensored (Anyone see Forgetting Sarah Marshall?)____________________________________________________

If I were a Qatari I would find the sort of censorship we experience here quite insulting. They're basically saying that people aren't intelligent enough to make their own educated decisions over what they read and what they believe. And by censoring stuff they just make people more determined to find a way to view it.

I think Q-tel use a third party company to choose which sites are blocked. Q-tel just supply a list of topics/keywords etc and the company sends back a list of what to block. Some things slip through, others are blocked inadvertently. Q-tel can block/unblock individual sites if you request them to (they unblocked my blog once I pointed it out to them).
