I am planning to take pictures around Doha. In respect to local customs, I would like to know what are the policies that I must follow in taking photographs. I am not a professional photographer. I am a visitor and I wish to show these photos to my friends when I go back home.

you can take photos just about anywhere, except in places where there are signs that say No photography allowed.. Never regret doing the things that will make you happy.. We have but one life to live and it's too short to dwell on negativities..Créer Blog Video insolite

You can take them anywhere, when i go out with my friends we take pictures all the time :)

Although places like Virgin they won't allow you to take pictures, so just keep in mind of not taking pictures in stores :D

So ask a security guard around if your allowed to take pics but the majority of places your allowed to.

Thanks! I think one can get into troubles if to photo local women or military camps. But it is ridiculous that to photo them you need specific permission. I've never been to Doha. I've found a review of it: http://www.tubesfan.com/watch/spotlight-on-doha . It seems to be rapidly developing and very rich place. And why not all the cities develop in the same way!

I wonder how come I can't take pictures of those malls where there are people on my network posing inside the mall's pillars and patios

For some one living here you won't respect locas in having the right to follow their own customs and tradition no you are encouraging the member who respectfully asks about the do's and dont's where it comes to photography.

FYI if you are suspected of doing so you could be in serious troubles.

it's a matter not taken lightly especially the atmosphere inlight of what happened in Dubai and the case of European's involvement in that case.

My advice to the photographer is ask the permission of the lady and you'll be fine avoid at any time forcing yourself as Pam suggestes as that will surely land you in trouble

I have started taking photos in Doha a couple of weeks ago. And most of them are street photos, sunset/sunrise. I stalk the sun for a while LOL. I think it is so safe to follow the sun from the window to the rooftop. I love photography so I turned it into a bonafide hobby. I have a photography website where I publish my simple photo.

You can take photos almost anywhere. Just dont take pics of local people or specific buildings. YOU CAN TAKE PICS IN MALLS - just be quick about it!

In some cases, just ask around before taking a picture.

When will you start your tour in Doha? I'd love to see your new shots...seeing some of your samples, I know you'll go a long way in photography because I can already see your passion of taking beautiful photos. About the sun rising, nice takes huh...

Enjoy the journey in photography! But thanks for the topic...I'm also taking notes of all the points mentioned here.

one world.one love.

I do appreciate your offer but I am a photographer myself but an amateur one. If you have a photo to showcase to the world have it here on the net, share them.

I have done several photos with young local women in Dubai asking their permission. It is an open city so I am so confident that I can take pictures of any building. Except for the Sheik's palace. I will show you some photos I have taken around Doha when I am done with my tour.

I have taken several photos in Villagio with no problems. If you would like a photo of the women, you can have a friend go and stand close to them and take a photo. I know several people that have done that.

Photography is just like the so called rule of the way Western women are suppose to dress. It really only applies during Ramadan.

You must take a photo of the Giant shopping cart in the parking lot!

Have a fun visit!

The 'No Photography' signs are posted at the mall's entrance. But just like the 'No Smoking' signs, they are often ignored by people...

I appreciate your quick response to my topic. I already listed some points to remember but I wonder how come I can't take pictures of those malls where there are people on my network posing inside the mall's pillars and patios. Please could somebody attest this policy. Thanks.

Go to the Industrial Area. You can make good photos there of excellent living and working conditions. And show them to all your friends.

Do not photograph local women, official buildings, industrial plants or military camps without specific permission.
