Petroleum Engineering Internship

Hello guys!

I am a Filipino college student taking up Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering. Come June 2011, I will be a 4th year student and by end of that academic year, we will be required to perform an internship before proceeding to our final year in school.

My family resides in Doha and I thought of having my internship in any of the oil companies in Qatar.

My question is, how possible is that?

I've heard of Qatarization, that they prefer Qatari students for internship. but will this greatly affect my probability of penetrating any oil companies in Qatar?

Last time I was in Doha was 2008 during my summer break, and first time I've stepped my foot in Qatari soil was way back 2000. I love the country and I feel secured whenever I am in Doha, so going there for my internship could serve as double purpose, a visit and my academic-related purpose.

I wish someone can help me with this, someone who can enlighten me with this.

Thank you very much :)

Hi Pallavi,

I had my internship in my home country before I shifted to Qatar after my uni graduation.

As for my current job, yes, you can apply online and they will be looking at your application and you can even check the status.

Hello Nasima, I guess this reply is pretty late as well.

4 years ago I posted this, and now I am back in Doha. Working in Ras Laffan for the biggest oil service company, still as a trainee though. Did you get any luck with any of the companies for internship? Or you're working now?

Unfortunately, getting internships here is futile unless you have some connections - really powerful ones. You have to have the right NATIONALITY as well. There's no harm in trying though. I wish you good luck. :)
