Penalties for delayed Salaries

Dear All,

What will be the penalty for those companies who keep delaying the salaries of their employees or workers?

Can we rely on the Ministry of Labor if we seek aid from them? Do they imposed a stiff penalties? (in our case having not paid for 4 months and running) so that these kind of abuses will not happen in the future.

Need your diplomatic and very informative advice in a peaceful way.

Shouldn't guests be treated with utmost kindness?

And herein lies the crux of the problem. We are not "immigrants", but guest workers.

I am appalled at the things I hear about Qatar and the treatment of employees, especially those who have immigrated looking to better the lives of their families and end up in worse situation. It's unethical in any culture to treat fellow humans in such a way.

Ministry of Labor can force companies to pay you your dues but still Companies can play with time to delay it as much as possible. You should keep in mind that you will lose the job immediately then and wont get NOC. So if you are going for good, then go Ministry of Labor, I am fully sure you will get your due entitlements as I have dealt with Ministry of Labor.

As far as penalties are concerned, no there are no criteria for penalties set so far. Only MOL put black point against the company when an employee complain to MOL. Company has to close that complain in order to get done other Admin works related to MOL else company wont be able to do any visa change etc. The black point remain against the company forever. Surprisingly, if an employee complain to MOL and even employee loses the case by putting nonsense complain against company, still MOL put black point against company and it remains forever......

Future security on delayed salary payment, am not seeing it in near future in Qatar. If Qatar implements WPS( Wages Protection System) as UAE has , then the problem can cured but for now, employees have to bear atrocities of the bad companies...

britexpat: It appears you have not had any experience of the Labor Office. YES, they do force companies pay the outstanding salaries and dues. I have seen employees in the ranks of labor and drivers getting justice done from the Labor Office forcing the management of their companies to settle their accounts. As for stiff penalties being imposed, I have not heard of any and as such there possibly exists no deterrent to prevent some companies from flouting the rules and regulations openly, and repeatedly.

You can approach the Human Rights Committee and the Labor Office. They will definitely force the company to pay you your outstanding salaries. However, you must keep in mind the company may retaliate by terminating your service and sending you home by the first available flight.
