opening up an account and cashing in cheques

i hope there is someone in the field of accounting or banking who would be able to answer following questions. if someone has a vsiting visa and that visa has been extended to the 6 months visa, is it possible for that person to open up an account at any of the banks? also, can someone with a visiting visa cash in a cheque at the commercial bank?
thx
I don't think one can open account while on visit visa unless it's a 'work visit'. However, you should be abel to cash in the cheque by submitting your passport copy showing your visa (RP) number. I suggest calling that bank to get the authentic information.
