Netgear Router Qtel Broadband Setup - Help!

Any advice from anyone who's set one of these up appreciated... got a DG834GT from Carrefour (firmware 1.0.1.28), bought as I have set up several DG834G's in the UK so I thought I'd be familiar with it! Moving into apartments where next door has agreed to let us share their 'net connection for a while, installed yesterday with the standard non-wireless Speedtouch modem via Qtel. Speedtouch works fine, can't get the Netgear to connect, here's what the Speedtouch settings are:

PPPoE (PPP over Ethernet, first thing I wasn't expecting - everything I've read on the 'net for Qatar says PPPoA only?!)
IP 89.211.218.xxx (Fixed IP needed over PPPoE?)
DNS 212.77.192.59 & 212.77.199.202
username p+phonenumber (eg. p5908243, first character case sensitive?)
password Qatar12 (This was written on paper - accurate? Case sensitive?)

Netgear attempted setup:

Took phone connection lead out of Speedtouch & plugged into Netgear, same with ethernet cable. Logged into admin page with initial admin login. Initially goes to Setup Wizard, gave it a try with the following settings:

Country - Other
Language - English
Auto Detect Connection Type - Yes

This Went to "detecting" for around 10 mins and never came back, so I gave up on it and did things manually as follows. First, I was just reading about what the config was likely to be from the 'net and on this site:

PPPoA, VPI 8, VCI 35
IP auto
DNS auto

No connection, although the router registered both a DownStream Connection Speed & UpStream Connection Speed, suggesting it knew there was an ADSL line available. Next, after finding Speedtouch admin page & checking differences:

PPPoE, VPI 8, VCI 35
IP as Speedtouch (Netgear doesn't alllow auto/blank with PPPoE anyway)
DNS both as Speedtouch
Also a "Service Name (If Required)" entry, which I couldn't find anything equivalent in the Speedtouch settings to enter.

... I've just noticed that the VPI/VCI settings change /might/ not have stuck, it was the default (?) 0,38 when I just checked through but I could swear it was set correctly before. If it was wrong, would this have stopped the connection (I was thinking it could only be a login issue!)? Not able to check right now, I have the router with me but am about 10 miles from the connection! If anyone with said router could post their exact working setup from the basic settings and adsl settings pages it might help restore some sanity....

thanks!

Ste.

Totally replacing the non-wireless Q-Tel supplied Speectouch with the wireless Netgear ADSL router. I'll give it another go tonight, sounds like I have everything else right maybe it was down to the VPI/VCI....

Are you trying to replace Q-Tel one with the Netgear that you got? Or are you planning to connect both of them together to get the Internet Access? If you are going to use the Netgear alone, there should be no problems ... but if you are going to use Q-Tel modem also along with your router then you have to configure Q-Tel one as a modem only .. Put both of them on the same subnet [Netgear & Q-Tel] and that is it.

Hope that it will work ...

PPPoE should work absolutely fine. I'm using it.

The username is not case sensitive (just tried it out now)

The password is most definitely case sensitive.

Try using qatar12 (all lower case). This is usually their default password.

If this also fails just call up 111 ADSL helpdesk and ask them to reset your password. But you will need to call them from the number that is registered to your ADSL line ..

I haven't configured a service name for my PPPoE .. It works fine.

I'm using a Speedtouch 510 router.
