Neighborhood
Hello Again Everyone:
My new employer has offered me housing in 2 different neighborhoods. As per Google maps, the first is in Al Wabb, and the second one is in Umm Ghuwailina. Both flats are similiar so it comes down to the area. I know nothing about these 2 neighborhoods and would appreciate advice from any of the locals here at QL. Thanks in Advance!!
Brit....I was a bit concerned about the Umm Ghuwailina flat after an article I read. Here is the excerpt:
"Old Ghanim/ Old Ghuwailina stays true to its name, hosting mostly older buildings which date back to a poorer time. While the rent is cheap, the parking situation is a nightmare and the maze of backstreets is confusing. This district belongs to Doha’s poorer parts; it is home to many Asian expats and less affluent Arabs."
Assuming it is the same neighborhood (this one states "Old Ghuwailina" instead of "Umm Ghuwailina").
Sunshine: You must be mistaken .. Qatar is a place of milk and honey and we all lead happy , carefree lives
NYC123: it is similar , but more mixed . I prefer Al Waab.
The best option is to see both when you come here and decide
if your gonna make 25% more then what your making now then go for it, its tuff here for some.
Brit.........and the other?
They are both good neighbourhoods .. Al Waab is middle class residential
Accha/UmKhan:
I appreciate your responses. I thought the same, regarding the proximity to work location/populated area. My main concern was whether or not they were good neighborhoods since every city has its bad parts. I still have some time to decide so will continue doing research. Thanks again!
You should finalize the location based on location of your office. Do you know where is it?
Al Waab is decent place when compared to Umm Ghuwalina however access to Al Waab could be crowded during peak hours. Kind of same for Umm Ghuwalina as well but Umm Ghuwalina has some variation. Some of the streets are very congested and way people park, its very hard for two cars to pass.
So if your office is near to Alwaab, that will be a better choice.
Wait three days and the decision will fall from the sky.
Wow! Are you not a lucky one. You have been given a choice of accommodation! I guess you are a westerner as they are the ones who are given a choice such as yours.
Coming to you query, the chief factor you need to keep in mind is your place of work. While Al Waab is also quite a decent place for staying and is not far from the main center of business, Umm Ghuwailina will be a better choice as it is nearer the main city center and closer to Corniche than Al Waab. Suggest you go for Umm Ghuwailina.
