need advice on buying a ford explorer

I am looking for advice on buying and maintaining a ford explorer. I'm planning to buy a 2004-2005 explorer but I'm worryng about the cost of maintenance and the availability of spare parts. and I still dont know the service center for this vehicle. anyone can give me advise on this matter and probably comparing the cost(percentage) from maintaining a japanese counterpart. Thank you very much for any advice...

Anything older than the 2006 is not a good Explorer. As a car it's not the best quality, but price and the 2006 safety features make up for that. However the 2005 model is not a good car, not even by a long shot. If it was expat owned and maintained in the past than it may just be in decent enough condition. But I still wouldn't buy it if I were you.
