moving to Doha

Hi all
my family will be moving to Qatar in August. My husband is going over in April and myself with my two children will be over in August. My husband has accepted a 3 yr job contract with a basic salary of 9000 QR, transport of 1000QR, and housing of 6000QR. The company will be paying for our childrens tuition for the year. The company usually provides housing, but currently they can not guarantee that we will receive one so they would provide the allowance stated previously. Will this amount of money be able to work for a family of four? Sallary will increase by an additional 45% after the first year, would you advise us to not join my husband until after the first year? How hard is it to get children into the british prep schools?

Generally, the employee needs over 10,000 to sponsor a family. Make SURE you have your employer's guarantee of family visa status. The numbers you mention are just about on the lowest side of any category.

these are low numbers. make sure that 45% is on paper. Once you are in qatar, you have no room to negotiate; you will not even get an exit permit if the employer disagrees.

check the classifieds for what you can get for that amount.

If you decided to come you better start to apply British or American Internation School in DOHA

It is not so easy to get in as you think

45% salary increase means 13000 after one year Make sure there is a signed paper for that gurantee if not you will not get normally we don't get that increasement just only a few thousand QAR only

That amount will be fine for here, but you won't have much left to save or send home. I have no experience of schools, but from what I read here on QL, finding one is going to be a challenge. As to your question about when to join your husband, I would recommend you stay together as a family as much as possible.
