Mothers!

Hi everyone,

I would really appreciate some solid advise please. I have a job offer with QP. Unfortunately, although the salary package is reasonable and includes medical, resisdency permits for my wife and children. It does not include my mother in this. She is in reality also a 'dependant' because she is elderly, widowed, and I am her only child. I would have to take her with me, but as i have come to understand she will only be allowed on a visitors visa with no medical cover etc.

Is there any way i can get an RP for her (QP will not do this)? I have thought about buying an apartment which will give her an RP, but i can't find anything costing less than £200k!If anyone knows where i could buy something b/w £100-150k please let me know.

any suggestions on how she can get medical cover on a visitors visa? could she get a medical card?

Thanks for your help.

for my mom she would love to come live with me and hubby and kid but the thing is she does not like to stay put in one place for too long.i dunno i been told that the 'old folks' do have a mind of their own and wanna do things the way they wanna do it......not easy to understand at times but then i guess that is the way it is. we just try to do wat we think is best for them and all concerned and we would like to be responsible and care for them as how they have cared for us when we were little.......yes with them living with us will kill 2 birds with a stone but is easier said than done well in some cases anyways.........

You make a valid point spicemom. my mother too would not be happy living with my wife and kids. she needs her own space. unfortunatley she is not that independant that she can live alone - i do her shopping, pay bills etc. so i have an added problem of having to look for 2 places! the housing allowance will help with 1, but the other will have to come out of my salary, and i have realised rentals are very expensive.....

Thanks spicemon. I have no choice. If we are not able to get my mother over then i cant take the job. i have looked into medical insurances, because she is over 70 with heart condition i have not found a company that will insure her. hopefuly she can get a 5 yr visitor visa, and has to re-enter every 6 months.

it can be done but i am not sure if it depends which company you work for as a friend of mine has his MIL (she is in her 60's and a widow)living with them since 2004, i was told she has to have her RP done yearly at a certain cost per yr, as for the medical that you can do with getting her her own medical card through medical insurance etc etc, now the thing is if she is out of doha for 6 mths or more per year there will be a separate charge when she returns. my mother too was supposed to come live with us here but she dont like it here so she never came abt to it except to come stay for a mth or so......gl and hope your Mom will be able to come live with you.

I recently heard they will not give visas to women over 60 because elderly women have become a drain on medical care. So you might want to check that out first.

thanks for the comments so far. we are british and i will be getting the 5yr visa with 6 months re-entry. she is 70 rs of age and has a heart condition. she is mobile, but yes the heat will be a factor. i would idely like to buy her a small place with an excellent working a/c but from what i have seen apartments for exptats are extremely expensive even compared to dubai where you could get a 1 bed appartment for £50-70k rather than the £180-200k i have seen advertised! Unless people know otherwise, help in this area would be much appreciated. it would solve the RP issue, give mum stability, and she could also be entitiled to the medical card.

what do you classify as 'elderly' ... only asking because if she is a fit and healthy, say 60 something for example and OK to travel about without a zimmer frame, then why not just get her a multiple entry visa (£250).

I just bought one and it allows me to stay for 6 months at a time for up to 5 years.

Of course, I don't know what nationality you are ... I'm speaking from a British Passport holder point of view.

Just looked at your profile and it says you are from UK, so the option above may help.

As to medical cover .. no idea, except that you could probably arrange that privately or just take her to a local hospital/doctor if the need arose? I think the cost of private medicine here may be a lot less than in UK so if you are earning the dosh it shouldn't be a problem (unless she has medical needs you haven't mentioned).
