If you don't have qatar bank account; go to gulf exchange. If you going to open an account on local bank; look a bank which has internet banking that can transfer money online, like HSBC.. If you have a local bank which does not have internet banking; go to the bank and you can do the transfer at the counter.
Try Al-Fardan at Najma street or Al-Larry at ElMerkab R\A near the Islamic museum
I've heard about Gulf Exchange, but never tried. Once I sent money to Canada through Habib Qatar, it took 3 days to deposit the money to my wife's account. Cost me 30 QR for $2500 tarnsfer. Not bad.
If you have a bank account it should be easier (3-5 days)and cheaper than going thru a wiring service.
I would recommend that. Or if you don't have an account perhaps a local bank would do it for a fee.
