Letter from Traffic Dept license authority
Hi,
I will be moving to Canada soon, I was advised to bring a letter from the local traffic department saying that I have been a holder of the driving licence for so many years in Qatar and the same to be translated in English and attested by Ministry department. Could someone please advise how do I go about this & how long does it take to get the same?
Is it true that this letter would be useful while applying for my drivers licence in Canada.
Thanks in advance for all those wise advise.
Cheers
The letter would be for the insurance companies, but my experience has been that the only foreign insurance/lack of accident certificate that is of any use are those from the US.
If you can drive in Qatar, you can certainly drive in Canada (now whether you can do it legally is another matter). ;-)
More important is your driving record. If you can prove that you've had a clean driving record for the past 3-5 years then your insurance rates will be much lower in most provinces. Now how you go about getting that record... maybe your Qatari insurance company (if you own your own vehicle) or rental company (if you don't) can help ?!?
I would have thought it was enough showing your drivers license from Qatar, it shows when you got it, and when it expires. Check with Canadian Traffic authorities- They would give you the advice.
