How strict are Qatar Airways w/ baggage?
Hello all. I wanted to travel to New Delhi and I was thinking about flying through Qatar Airways, however I was horrified that such an expensive and "prestigious" airline only allow 20kg for only ONE checked in baggage. And plus you're only allowed one baggage.
I'm usually travel via Emirates (although I haven't travelled enough for a silver membership yet:( ) and upon doing a bit of research, I found that they allow ONE checked in baggage for a whopping 30kg which is pretty awesome. However the drawbacks are that you have to wait in connection, and there is a higher probability of having your baggage lost in DXB.
I'm going to be travelling during peak season (July) so the fares are practically the same.
From all you're experiences from traveling Qatar Airways, should I just go ahead with QA although I might risk having to pay for extra baggage or should I play it safe with Emirates? Please please please help me with this decision from all your experiences.
Salsa is rt....u can carry 40kg in qatar airways while flying to india and only 20 kg while while flying back.
But the ticket will mention only as 20kg. Just give a call to Qatar Airways and they will confirm the same to you... and yes i just travelled last week and came back
Cheers guys. I decided to go for the Emirates option. Works out best for me in terms of a lot of factors including luggage.
Are you assuming he is Skywards Silver because of the 30kg allowance?
Emirates recently increased its baggage limits, as follows:
Emirates has increased all weight based checked baggage allowances by 10 kgs, meaning we now have one of the world’s most generous baggage policies. Economy Class customers can now check in 30 kgs, Business Class travellers may take 40 kgs and if you are flying First Class you can travel with 50 kgs of checked baggage. Piece concept routes are not affected. So please check our baggage allowance calculator to find out which applies to you.

Silver would get an extra allowance on top of the 30kg (or relevant cabin/sector allowance).
I would like to explain you as follows:
While going from Qatr you are allowed 40KG(can carry two luggage) and hand bag of 7 kg + duty free shopping.
While coming from India you are allowed to carry only 20 kg luggage and 7 kg of hand bag unless otherwise you have privellege club member ship (minimu burgendry).
I hope this would help you as i am travelling to DELHI two times in a year.
I did a flight with both airlines and both offers a great service.
In your case, I suggest to take QA since it is less hassle and comfortable travelling in a direct flight. You are afraid of lossing your belongings, right? Being secured and worry-free is priceless.
You are a silver member of Skyward (Emirates, I pressume) which means you can afford to pay an extra 10kg of baggage which we also not sure if you will be asked to pay or not since it always depend on the mood of Check-in Counter-Guy.
Go for QA. Final.
I too advice u to travel by Jet Airways....this i advice u with my experiences.........
QA always say like that but I do take 30kg baggage to Lahore and hang baggage nearly 7kg.
.
In ur case as u have to go to NEWDELHI, why don't u try JET AIRWAYS,ETIHAD AIRWAYS as they are quite cheaper than QA.
.
Also, if you go to REGENCY travel i have seen the small banners of KING FISHER airlines. Call them & find out about this airline too
Cheers for the advice. I did a bit of research however I'm not sure I'll be able to become burgundy so quickly as I haven't flown on QA before and I don't see myself flying to Delhi that often. I just registered for membership and I am at a "privilege club" level :S Maybe you can suggest otherwise.
Na mate. I don't see how. The flight time is much longer plus its a bit more expensive and the baggage weight limit is the same as QA.
You can more allowance if you join their frequently flyer program and become a Previlage customer.
So if you get 50 Qpoints in a year you become a burgundy member giving you extra 10kg allowance
Silver 150 points gives you extra 15kg
and Gold 250 points gives you extra 20kg.
If you fly Qatar airways more often you will reap the reward later..
hope it helps..
