I am in love with the Lumina SS 2008 model. Im thinking of picking it up.... Need help and comments on Why i should pick it up and or why i shouldnt pick it up..... Just need advice..... Please comment..
Its an old formula that Chevy adapted for this car. Big engine in a simple chasis. The suspension on this car is not so clever. Front Suspension is independent, macpherson struts, lower i-arms, hydraulic tension rod, coil springs, hydraulic dampers, jointed mount stabiliser bar whereas, Rear Suspension independent, semi-trailing arm, lower control link, coil springs, hydraulic dampers, fixed mount decouple stabiliser bar.
Now as complex it may sound, but it is not clever at all.
It is good raw fun to drive it. Has lots of useful torque on a straight stretch but it struggles on corners. It would spin you like a donut if you dare to rush in a corner. The traction control and limited slip diff is not as intelligent as u may expect.
It can over steers badly! As i said its a cheap, raw fun! Dont expect a BMW M3 or Mitsubishi Evo response from this vehicle.
BTW ask Australians they absolutely love a semi truck version of this car, it sells like a hot cake there :)
Dude listen to me i have a lumina ss 2008 manual gear and i can tell you its a beast i mean come on my car is stock and i smoked crap outta Mercedes c63 amg dont listen to any nonsense comment here and get the car u like there are plenty of lumina in qatar so i suggest u get one fast
The parts are made in korea or japan but the car is still built in OZ or it was till the end of last year...

My friend Prem-6672471 (working in Honda)took me for a test drive on this car in Al Khor road & man.......i'm impressed. 0-100 comes up in 5 secs. The reliable, good looking car with serious power.
but it has more than enough power to slap up most of the "fast" cars around it. With 360 hp on tap at 5700 rpm, and 530 Nm of torque ready to shred the rear tyres at 4400 rpm, it can do wonders for your inferiority complex. With the standard stability control on, the car zipped to 100 kph in 6.3 seconds. With the system off, it can do the deed in an excellent 6.1 seconds with a mild tyre-saving launch at 2000 rpm. But it is not as fast as most people would expect, due to its weight gain over the previous model. The sport-tuned suspension is not firm enough to cause any discomfort whatsoever, smoothening out roads with luxury-like ease. At 120 kph, the engine chugs along at only 2000 rpm, while wind noise is just about noticeable, increasing with speed.Grip from the 245/45 tyres wrapping the 18-inch rims is very good, but a good burst of power can spin the back wheels and break loose the rear, only to regain grip rather quickly. The stability control only interferes in extreme situations, so it is easy to drive the car fast through turns.

I have been driving this car for 8 years now (starting with the model of 99 and now the 07 model) and I am a big fan.
Yes, it's true - the interior is cheap and the older versions had trouble with transmission/ differential but those days are gone.
The power of the engine is amazing and the safety record of the car is quite good (if you can drive it).
Was test-driven by TOP GEAR and got good points.
It tends to fish-tail when powered out of a curve but on the straights it will go nose to nose with a Porsche Boxter any day.
Fuel?? Let's face it - not an issue here... :)
You might want to check out the insurance...it can be heavy as it is considered a sportscar afterall.
Try to get a second-hand (expat driven) as the car loses value of about 20K the moment you put it on the road but otherwise the re-sell is good as not many of them survive their first year on the road (in Dubai they call them suicide bomber)
previous generation SS had tranny problem, the extreme hp and torgue proved to much for the transmission to handle, it is also very cheap inside, if you want sporty and fast, get a german car, perhaps a e46 M3....

IME, the key to driving here is straight line 0-120 time and passing time (90-120, etc.), not absolute top speed. The SS is well suited for Qatar.

V6 drinks up a lot of fuel.
A wee bit Longer than an average sedan, bad if you park in narrow inside lanes.
So very few pluses....
Man, if you are looking for such cars then you must be a racing driver.
And for that i would really advice to go either for lancer EVO , or Subaru impreza STI.

and needs to be handled with extrem care. A fiend of mine bought one for his 18 year old son last year. The boy died in a car accident 2 weeks later..
Its built for long stretches of road and needs an experienced driver to handle it...
What use would it be on Qatar's roads ?
Get an ordinary lumina - its cheaper an safer.
