MY house contract was finished on APR 2010. On Apr i tried many time to approach to landlord but he was out of country. His secretay and accountant always says let the landlord come then only your contract will finish. Finally after waiting 4 months on Sep I given the 2 months notice that i will leave the house. The Accountant signed my papers and accepted.
But now Landlord came yesterday & saying to me that i cant leave the house i have to pay till APR 2011.
HE IS CLAIMING THAT YOUR CONTRACT AUTOMATICALLY RENEW FOR NEXT YEAR.

PLEASE ADVISE ME I ALREADY BOOKED ANOTHER HOUSE AND PAID THE CASH OVER DERE AS ADVANCE.

The law basically says that if you fail to notify the landlord that you do not wish to re-new your contract (by giving notice within the agreed time), he has the right to re-new the contract automatically, under the same terms. In addition, there seem to be a number of issues involved here in which case professional advice is called for.

In the first instance, contact the Rental Dispute Resolution Committee Office (RDRC), besides Munthazah Park, opposite the Holiday Villa Hotel, Munthazah, to establish what your rights are. You will most probably then need to proceed to the court in Al Dafna, next to Commercial Tower, opposite the Post Office, in order to file a case against your landlord and have an opportunity to discuss your matter with a lawyer.

Can I suggest that you are accompanied by someone who speaks Arabic? Failing that you will leave non-the-wiser. Besides, standard forms are written in Arabic. Telephone numbers for these offices will be available at Q-Tel 1802.

Good luck!

It is very clear that the accountant signed your 2 months notice. I dont see any problem regarding the legality, you already do your part to legalize everything as per your contract is concern. If the landlord keep on insisting his right, as everyones response, go to legal battle and you has the bigger edge. Relax and dont worry...everything will be settled in a legal way... favoring your side.

If no written notice was provided to the landlord then yes the contract was auto-renewed and there is nothing much you can do. I understand the situation you are in, but you should have taken a paper around two months ahead of end of contract and have anyone at the landlord's office sign that they received it.

If yoru contract with the old landlord is registered with rent control board then u can file complaint, otherwise also read and understand the contract thoroughly with the help of some arabic speaking guy ( if required) then approach for legal help, he cannot take u for ride.
