Help Quitting Smoking
By ITProf2006 •
After reading several threads, I know there are many people that 'dislike smoking'. So I thought this might be a good place to get help! I have tried using Nicotine Gum, Zyban, the Patch and Cold Turkey, but they do not work for me. My question to you all is there other treatments available in Qatar, i.e. Chantix, Commit Lozenges, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
just lessen your stick of cigar per day, and exercise... like jogging for 3 kms, then the other day 5kms... just something like that

Just thought I would share that it has been 10 days since I last smoked. For those interested in quitting but need help, try the Commit Stop Smoking Lozenges. They are fantastic; they really helped me get through the really bad cravings and emotional swings. So if you can't quit cold turkey and do not want constant doses of Nicotine then try to Lozenges! Unfortunately they don't sell them in Qatar so you will have to order them online. Good luck to all who are trying to or wanting to quit smoking!
smoking is not at all good. well that is what i think i am saying this coz i am the person who smokes 20 stick a day. i am trying to quite but tell you quite frankly ppl i havent yet found ne strong reason to quite my freinds say what strong reason do i need that is not good for my health but there has to be some else something better some more tempting for me to leave. ppl let me tell u if u cant leave cigratte but there are plenty of counter measure to take to minimize the effect of the tar n nicotine n other 400 chemical that we take when we are smoking i think this is one subject where i can have a hell of discussion coz i have been smoking all this time n i have read all the ill effect of somking n also the measures to counter it i have even seen the ppl suffering frm cancer in the hospital tell you ppl frm my personal experience it is very scary to see those ppl suffering frm cancer which is causd due to smoking when i saw those ppl i didnt touched my stick for abt a week but once again i am on with it and some where down the line richard123 is correct in her way.
Thank you for your comments. To those of you that had behavioral addictions to cigarettes and were able to quit cold turkey, I applaud you. Mine like many others is more of a chemical addiction. Kind of like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, hence the need to step down the amount of Nicotine needed in my body. Other wise I just tend to really upset everyone around me. I was able to quit for several months with the patch however it left itchy circular welts were the patch was located. I had the patch on for maybe 12 hours a day but the welts lasted 3 weeks to a month. I did change location of the patch everyday. Needless to say after several weeks I had these circles all over my upper body, so I stopped treatment and went back to smoking. So the nicotine replacement decreased overtime does work for me. To all those wanting to quit I just ordered Commit Stop Smoking Lozenges, I should have them in a week or two. I will let you all know how well they work, for me at least. If someone finds them in Qatar somewhere please let me know. Thanks
got it now!!! thanx
I was going to try and explain this myself, but I chose to go to an online dictionary. I coudn't quite find the words. LOL I apologize for the confusion. "Cold Turkey" isn't a well known phrase. I will do better next time. :-)
"Cold turkey" is a term describing the actions of a person who gives up his habit or addiction at a single moment, rather than through gradually easing the process through tapering off or supplemental medication. The term allegedly derives from the comparison of a cold turkey carcass and the state of a withdrawing addict. It is often preceded by the word 'going', as 'going cold turkey'.
Cold turkey? sorry can ou explain it to me please? didnt really get cold turkey....lol
I quit almost 2 years ago. The only way I could do it was cold turkey. You have to WANT to quit. You have to be sick of it. I didn't really have any problems. The first three days were bad. I would just keep reminding myself how bad it smells. The hardest part for me was the drinking and not smoking. When I would drink alcohol I would smoke. I stopped drinking for 3 or 4 months as well. After that time I was able to have a drink without smoking. It is hard for me to go to a bar because of all the smoking. It does tempt me a little. Where I am from in the US they have banned smoking in public. It is nice for me because I can go to a bar and have a drink and not deal with it.
I just love these forums. Soon we will not need colleges or schools, we will get all our advice and learning from people on forums. Intead of a B.A., M.B.A. or Ph.D we will have a L.F.F. "Learned From Forum".
In reference to the introduction of tobacco, I think it's time we sue the Native American for introducing us to tobacco.

Smoking was a stress reliever for me too … now I just bite my fingers, much healthier ;)
Scotch and quite a bit of headbanging suits me. And the cigarettes. Ask Angus.
My stress reliever is a six pack of beer and potato chips. ;)
You have a report/presentation or research and you're burning the midnight oil (so to speak). What is your likely companion through it? It's a pack (or two) of cigarette and coffee (instant or brewed) to breeze you thru the night.
I'm like that most of the time so how can I quit. OOO, smoking is a stress-reliever for me too. What to do, what to do????

Good for you! i wish one day ill wake up and realize that i dont like smoking, it is sooooooooo frustrating reallly!!! I keep on telling myself that, ok today im going to quit smoking then if i get stressed ill lit a cigarette so there you go back to zero....
As the great majority of heavy smokers, I truly, honestly believed I liked smoking … one of the few great pleasures in life, right? That was my problem! Any time I tried to quit it was frustrating, poor me, I felt deprived of such enjoyable thing, how could I do this to myself, life is hard enough already, and so on …
Finally I force myself to recognize that in fact I didn’t like it, it was not enjoyable at all, I was just badly addicted, mentally and physically and as soon as I became conscious of this I quit smoking for good : )
that's one reason also that im so scared to quit smoking, gaining weight... im always been slim. My husband quit smoking for almost three years now and he wish he never stoped smoking coz he gained a lot of weight....
I've been trying to quit SMOKING as well. I thought I would be able to when I went to Qatar thinking that cigarettes would be hard to find since this is an arab state. I gained 10 pounds after six months. Ugh!!! Got depressed about it and lit a cigarette and voila! I'm hooked again.
So, anyone has any suggestion for us smokers to quit without losing the battle of the bulge? ....lol

What happened to the quit smoking thread..............
I quit every second day.
You illiterate western propagandist foul mouthed, murderous trollope. Leave this country and go back to your stinky big car country with your polar bears.
What can we do about worldwide hunger? It was invented by the British when they were climbing Everest in a Kayak.

Ridiculous conjecture! Learn to read Richard! I write for any lay man to understand. The West is a pile of disease and rot! Sickness!
You maybe right Gypsy but do you really think I need advice from some Canadian Kayaking British wannabe? Typical westerner, you create all the problems in the world and then hurl your vitriol at me. AND stop being so anti-American, AND learn to use multisyllabic non-sensical words or GET off this SITE and GO back to your ridiculous western country.

Richard you are nothing but a sex addicted, bossy, waste of space Westerner. Who created cigarettes? Westerners! It's all your fault. Go stand in the corner and contemplate what you and your disgusting cohorts have done.
and I am not even a Brit! But I did do Mont Blance in 2004 and the London and Paris marathons but I still haven't been able to quit smoking. What on earth will cutesrk make of this?

I practically put (auto) brainwashing to a good use ;)
Wow Richard a marathon, le Mont Blanc … aren't you anxious at the idea of what Cutesrk may think of you???
i have quit 2 years ago, after 20 years of smoking!!! i am very satisfied i did it without any treatment or "medicals". i gave promise to my daughter, and didn't want to disappointed her! it was the reason big enough for me, honestly. i was repented about promise, but... my husband was very helpful, he stopped smoking at our home.
you can do that if you really want!
unfortunately, i put on 15 kg after that, and now i am fighting with fat
Please tell me. Did you go to a special retreat in your mysterious country (Switzerland ?).
I have quit smoking several times. Once, a few months before I ran a marathon, another before I climbed Mont Blanc but always, I eventually returned to smoking once I had achieved my goal and thought I was over smoking.
I am so weak!!!!

I agree with k977, forget all this rubbish, it doesn't work. I did succeed quitting the moment I realized (or convinced myself … whatever) that I actually don't like it. I haven't smoked a cigarette in years and don't miss it nor feel tempted.
I recommend petitioning the government to raise the price of a pack of cigarettes to 60QR, and then ban smoking in public places all together, especially bars. It works.
It's all up there bro! I was trying to quit since past year and half or so. Just didn't work, cos it was always there at the back of my head that I will smoke again sooner or later. That thought I guess is responsible in getting you tempted whenever you see someone else smoke.
I've successfully quit smoking for past 3 months or so. There were temptations at times, but I was satisfied and quite sure this time that I really didn't wanna go back to it. Infact, whenever I did smoke once or twice in between, which was like a more than a month ago now, I felt guilty of doing so. Besides that the disgusting feeling you get when you wake up in the morning after heavy late nite smoking made me stay away even more.
It was all done without any help of gums or patches! :)
All the best in your effort to quit smoking!

Oh, my God... laser treatment... nicotine gum... fads, gimmicks and gimcracks...
If you really want to quit --as opposed to fooling around with cute props-- contact me by e-mail and I'll coach you. But I'm not going to steer you toward the latest novelties or encourage you to throw money at what is essentially a behavioral problem. I'm going to help YOU quit, all by yourself, without any of this nonsense.
It's not easy, and it's not simple. You need to manage your behavior on several levels. Thats' why all of this nonsense won't work.
just recently a colleague of mine was mentioning how he quit smoking after he underwent a laser treatment here in Doha....it's been three months now since since he's quit smokin..
it's an hour's treatment for 3 days and costs QAR 1000 and it seems to work on him atleast....this is a clinic next to the Al Bateel pharmacy on Salwa Road...i think it's called Qatar Medical Centre or so...am not too sure on the name...
may be u cud give it a try n let us know...Good luck.....
