Health tips
Hello There,
Here's our Health Tip of the Week:
DO NOT RE-USE PLASTIC MINERAL WATER BOTTLES
Many are unaware of poisoning caused by re-using plastic bottles.
Some of you maybe in the habit of using and re-using your disposable water bottles, keeping them in the car or at work. Not a good idea.
It has been reported that a 12-year-old girl died after using the same plastic mineral bottle for about 16 months. She used to carry the bottle, which she had carried to school on a daily basis.
The type of plastic used in the majority of disposable bottles is known as PET (polyethylene terephthalate), and contains the potentially carcinogenic element diethyldroxylamine or DEHA. These bottles are designed for single use only. If you're going to re-use them, it should only be for a period of few days or a week at the most, and during this period, they should be kept away from sources of heat.
Repeatedly washing and rinsing can cause the plastics to start to degrade, and the carcinogens may leak into the contents of the bottle that you are about to drink from. It is far better to invest in water bottles that are designed for multiple usages.
For those of you who have families, please remind them of these facts and take special care when preparing drinks for your children.
