Getting to doha
Hi there,
I am a 23 year old British female and my Fiance has recently moved to Doha and I am hoping to also find work out there so I can join him. I teach English (EFL) and have a Law degree. I have seen a number of vacancies and applied for a few, but keep getting the same response that the companies are unable to offer sponsorship etc and could I contact them when I get to Doha. This is a catch 22 situation because I cannot come to Qatar without the work visa and sponsorship! I know that I would not be able to legally live with my fiance until we get married, but it seems there is no one willing to offer me sponsorship/accomodation etc for any job!
Any advice on what I can do about this? I am getting really frustrated :(
Thanks! Beth
PS I am coming to Doha next week but my Fiance will be working almost everyday...he lives a couple miles from the centre of Doha and I won't have a car, but I don't fancy sitting in his house all day on my own. What's the best and safest way to get around to malls etc?
Thanks again!
If this is your first trip to Doha you probably wouldn't want to drive here anyway unless you are very brave. Before I took the plunge and got a car I used a driver called Ahmed tel: 5496293 who I found very reliable. He has a decent car ( a late model Chevy) and is reasonable on cost (around 15QR a trip).
As far as the job is concerned, you could use this trip to visit companies and talk to them. They may well be prepared to sponsor you. You then reapply once you have left Qatar.
Contact the companies when you arrive and they might change their mind.
You arrive either during the last week of Ramadan or just after it ends. The malls during Ramadan are open 10am-1pm and 8pm-1am. You can call for a Taxi or Limo (more expensive). During the Eid holiday after Ramadan most shops will be closed for the first couple of days. Your fiance should have time off too to show you around.
Have fun.
