Exporting personal Cars From Doha to The U.S.

I am thinking about exporting my car from Doha to the U.S. I am not sure how to do all the needed paper works. I could use and would appreciate advices from people who have more knowledge than I do. If anyone who is going through the same process, We could get together and use the same company to get cheaper rates. I already found a shipping company that would charge me $3,400 all the way to Tx. From the research I did , this is the best price I found and trans time is 22 days which is a very good deal, but I am not sure If I could clear the car there from customs myself or not and if any modifications need to be done to the car. My car is 2007 so I don't think I would have any problems with it. Please advise me on what I should do.

Mr. Mike

Hi all,

Just need a little advice regarding shipping agencies. I

plan to send a car to France

in the next month or two. I have the CERTIFICATE of CONFORMATY sorted, 125.00

euros and enclose bill of sale, Qatari registration, and passport copy in the

application. A little chap will sort the export paper work, plates and

insurance. All I now need is a recommendation re a shipping agent.

Any recommendation would be nice.

Many thanks

Mr.Mike

Knowing more about the car i see your point, but 3 things i would think about if you already havent;

1) I have a big feeling it has a massive engine, hence massive consumption. Im sure youve heard about the gas prices there.

2) Registration and insurance fees. im not quite sure, but i think it kinda piles up.

3) As an option for selling, you could post it for sale for the price you want, keep it someplace you trust that would allow people to take a look at it everynow and then. its either sold, or atleast when you come back you'll have a car available with low milage. thats a keeper.

As for the required paperwork and so, im really sorry i have no clue to the exact requirements.

other than that, good luck!

Well Let me explain the situation. I will be going there for a year. I am financing my car here so I would be paying for it for a year without using it which is not acceptable. I thought about selling the car, but people think that I am trying to get rid of it, so They try to buy it cheap which I will never allow. The Car comes in a very rare exterior and interior combination as I was told for its model. Loaded with lots of options and in amazing conditions. Plus it is sporty. The car has only 11,200 Km and was bought May 2007, so you can imagine how good I am taking care of this car. I installed a protection film on it which cost me around QR 6,000.

Ok now Let me do the math: -

1- Renting a car for a year will cost me atleast $10,000 for a very small car.

2- I would not mind buying a really nice car there if I sold my car.

3- Renting the same car for a weekend in some countries would cost around $ 1,000 so why not ship it and enjoy it.

Plus Money is not really a big issue at the moment, but I want to make sure that when the car gets there, It won't be sent back for some missing a paper work or not meeting specifications.

So do you still think that it is not worth the hassel?

Do you think it would be worth the hassel, time and money?

have you checked how much it would cost to buy the same car from there?

If the car you have here means that much to you, then id say go for it cuz money isnt an issue. but then again, if you could get an alternative, why not?

Thanks Majnoon. I already spoke to the dealer here in Doha. I was told that they could change few things that's required to meet the U.S. standards and they would give me a certificate that confirms it. I still can not find anyone here who went through exporting a car from Doha to the U.S.

it is a nightmare trying to bring a car into the US because of the emissions, safety glass and crash tests etc. I would think the dealer would know if it is US acceptable. Good luck
