DOES THE IPHONE WORK IN QATAR?

Okay.... Games over for me.

I tried everything to find an Iphone... and No Luck. I guess it just wasnt ment for me.

I have decided to wait until it comes to Qatar,,, when ever that might be.

okay i posted earlier and don't see my post so i will post it again..

I went into the Apple store today ready to buy the Iphone... was kinda scared of who to go to ,, so than a girl came up to me and asked me if I needed help I told her.. yeahhhhhhhhhhh!

I was freakin out trying to figure out ,, how to tell her.. than I just came out and said it... I told her all my friends over seas are using the iphone and I am jealous and want one too.. but the only problem is that I have to unlock it and I need the serial number to be .... like what you all told me less than 45 or 50 or what ever,,

anyways it didnt come to her as a surprise but I could feel she gotta kinda of worried too she didnt want to loose her job,,, but she felt with me,,, okay anyways,, what happend is she told me that she couldnt find any ,, and she brought one out,, and told me they are all starting from 51 ,,, so they only have 1.1.2

So I wasnt sure to get it or not cause I dont have the turbo thing you told me about dandy...

so What now,, do I go back and just buy it,, or should I just wait till Feb...

I am so sad,, I was so happy to get the phone and than ... boom!

i think there is problem also now in week 51 iphones..so maybe turbosim won't work either...

so qatman is right, you can buy and wait for maybe 1 month for it if a release for unlock will show. (you can use the iphone as ipod for the meantime..and install games..)

Buy the iPhone, use it as a itouch iPod till Dandy can unlock it for you ( It may take time to get the turbosim so be prepared to wait for a month or two)

Option 2:

Buy an unlocked Phone in Qatar ( It may cost you about 3000 Qr +)

Third option/choice could be not to use iPhone at all which I am sure you will not make

unlocking iPhones is like eating a piece of cake. Amnesia has put the details in his post http://www.qatarliving.com/node/59680 for version 1.1.1

But I think ArabainFairy will be have an OTB 1.1.2 for which no published software unlocking exists. Its better to have an expert like DANDY or AMNESIA handle it, Since it requires a different type of unlocking using the Turbosim.

U can Unlock the phone by your self, its a piece of a cake and u can do it any time, but the most important thing is that u wont do the mistake whenever u connect the iphone to itunes coz it will always ask u to do an upgrade, and if u do it then u brick ur mobile.....

Well hmm what ever is on Iphone can never get on mobile but yea memory nowdays for mobile and iphones are the same.8GB.

now iphone got alot of features application that are useful and alot of fun too like about 30games on it you cant have that on mobile. then there are alot of dictionaries which are impossible on mobiles. and you have youtube too on iphone which you dont have on mobile.

now you have to be in a wifi area to use it fully. Qtel still doesnt have any configuration for iphone regarding GPRS MMS etc.

on iphone you can set you gmail and mac too.

I ordered 3iphones from UK when they werent available in Qatar.

and i am still using it got noooooooooo problems with it.am much happier with it than N95 trash slider.

and i am not pissed its u who got pissed as if she is buying it from your POCKET.

If you cant buy it or cant use it then dont force ur choice.

And who would configure for here the MMS or internet, i am talking for normal users where configuring the access points are like hello for them.

Qtel is sending automatic configuration for most of the mobiles to take the headache out, so whenever she needs to configure her mobile she has to go to you ???

By the way this mobile is been made or created as a multimedia phone that depends on internet 24 hourse so you can enjoy it, and in the U.S AT&T are offering free internet access for these phones when it is sold.

So as a user would u still consider of buying it ? be honest Dude

Hi, i just saw this link now and i would like to say this:

It is a piece of garbage, dont be fooled with it, Nokia 95 8GB is much better than it for the following reasons:

1- the camera is a shittt sorry to say that but it is nothing compared to the 5 Mega pixels of the Nokia, the iphone is only 2 mp with no flash even

2- you cannot use 3G or internet as it cannot be configured for mms or other type of software related to internet.

3- all facilities such as the weather forecast and other software cannot work here as we dont have this service available in Qatar thats why they locked it so no one can use it instead of the U.S

4- The battery goes flat quickly

5- One major stupid thing in it which is if you have something on your device and wana send it to others u cant !!!!!

6- you cannot use the phone as a portable memory as other mobiles do such as the Nokia 95 where u can use it as a mobile and an 8GB flash memory which is a very useful item for me

plus other negative issues which cannot be explained here, if u need more details do not hesitate to contact me.

Well that depends on the upgrade process and it can be easily cleaned.

IT IS MORE OKAY IF YOU GET 1.1.1 VERSION:

to check if its 1.1.1 iphone, look at the back of the box and look at the serial number.

1. if "4th and 5th" number in your serial number on iphone is 44 and below, IT CAN BE UNLOCKED. (this is 1.1.1.)

EXAMPLE serial number: 7V744Y9LWH8 - see, this is week 44 on 4th and 5th digit number. all week 44 and below can be unlocked.

BUT IF YOU GOT VERSION 1.1.2:

2. if "4th and 5th" number in your serial number on iphone is 45 and above, it CANNOT be unlocked.

EXAMPLE serial number: 7V745Y9LWH8 - see, this is week 45 on 4th and 5th digit number.

now you need to get TURBOSIM to unlock it which you can buy also in states or via FEDEX.(but beware fake or scams..ok?)

and about the fee, i only help people if they brick there phones..that is why i priority people who brick there Iphones..

and if you can see, i only charge 100QR and NOT like 500QR or 300QR like othere people i found in some shops.

(i only charge for that small fee just for the time it gained...which include downgrading, fixing baseband anbd etc..and you know that it consumes time also because you have experience on this.. also, they help me with there brick iphones in my writing for tutorials with pictures..)

If you are comfortable with 1.1.1 thats fine. As far as applications are concerned, Almost all of them run on 1.1.2. The best feature about 1.1.2 Which I liked is opening email attachments like word, excel and pdf in horizontal view.

My interest in Iphone is more from technical perspective and not unlocking phones or performing updates for a fee. Thanks. However if you need any help regarding iPhone my fee will be a good cup of tea.

i dont say 1.1.1 is the best but am alot comfortable with this version.

You could ask for a phone whose manufacturing week is less than 45. ( which can be verified by the serial Number.) I wonder if apple stores will stock phones with less than 45 weeks manufacturing. You could try other sources besides apple as well. In the worst case apple iPhones are also available in Qatar except that they are slightly (or very) costly.

As far as unlocking the phone is concerned have no worry. Dandy here seems to be an expert at it. Still if you have any problems unlocking let me know, I will do it for you and if required teach you how to do it. (without any deal.)

Just ensure you buy the old version which can be unlocked very easily here.

All the US iPhones that came on week 45 and after have the 1.1.2 firmeware, with the new bootloader version 4.6. Those phones can still be jailbroken and activated, but there is no software sim unlock solution yet.

To find out the week on your iPhone check the 4th and 5th digit of serial number. This number can be found on the bottom of box in which you received the iPhone. if it is 45 and above then there is no software solution to unlock the phone right now, Hardware solution TurboSim is your only option I guess.

If you Serial number indicates that it is less that 45 then your iPhone can be unlocked. If not your choices are

1. Use TurboSim or similar HW method to unlock.

2. Jailbreak the iPhone and use it like iPod touch till a software unlock method is published.

yap, iphone works here in qatar. actually many are using it. i have list of 500+ users of iphone and working fine & good. but i suggest getting version 1.1.1 first.. because the brand new iphone 1.1.2 now is not unlockable at the moment, but if u have TURBOSIM for 1.1.2 then all will be okay.

Works smooth no problems only if you upgrade it then dandy is here go grab him from his throat. but i think you should stick to ver 1.1.1
