Delivery @ Al-Ahli - What birth plan?

Prior to delivery, you will provide your birth plan to your doctor. We had one that was not complicated, but pretty important to us. First of all, I bought new cameras to take videos and picture. Secondly, my wife wanted to have the umbilical cord cut ONLY after it stopped pulsing. Might sound weird to some, but GOOGLE it, if you are curious. At any rate, Dr. Sujatha agreed that the birth plan was reasonable. However, she didn’t deliver and the doctor and nurses who were there in the delivery room, didn’t read our plan.

Delivery wasn’t bad. My wife chose to use an epidural, so at 4-5cm dilated, we opted to start. The anesthesiologist that was recommended was Dr. Abbas, who was so professional. My wife’s opinion of him was that he was like her father. Trustworthy and professional. After the epidural, my wife went into labor about an hour or two later.

First off, I wasn’t allowed to take pictures. I had placed my iPhone to record everything, but 20 minutes into delivery, the charge nurse asked me to stop- my wife delivered about 10 minutes later. I also had on a GoPro Hero2 which I had just bought at Villaggio. They asked me to turn that one off as well. I was shocked and angry, but the focus wasn’t about me, so I put them away quickly. As the baby was delivered, I was expecting them to quickly dry her off (cord connected) to place her on my wife’s chest so that she could hold her during her first few minutes of life. After the cord finished pulsing I wanted to cut. However, as soon as my daughter was born, the doctor and nurses were calling to me to “Cut! Cut!” I quickly explained that my wife wanted to hold the baby, so they plopped her (blood and all) right on my wife’s chest and then asked me to cut. My wife was so shocked. I was so shocked. It was ridiculous.

They took the baby, I cut the cord, and then I followed the baby to where the pediatrician weighed her, etc. I took a lot of pictures there and it was pretty amazing.

I want to make something clear: the doctor who delivered was awesome and very professional. She was very sweet and was so helpful to my wife. All the nurses were also sweet and they were great coaches. I don’t want this to sound personal. This is really a critique of the experience as a whole.

These are our opinions and observations for our delivery experiences. I have more for delivery.

The third in the trilogy is never as good as the first two. Let's hope he doesn't do a 3D version
