Here is additional information regarding the process from the UAE to Qatar: 1. Choose a date that is four days before you intend to leave the country with your car. Schedule an appointment online with VFS TasHeel for that same date but later in the day. If your car is registered in Abu Dhabi, make the appointment with the Abu Dhabi VFS TasHeel office (somewhere near Port Zayed). If your car is registered in Dubai, go to the Dubai office (in the Wafi Mall). On this "special" day, arrive immediately when the Traffic office opens. Pay your dirhams and get your export documents and plates. You now have four days to remove your vehicle from the UAE.
2. Once you are finished at the Traffic office, go immediately to VFS TasHeel. Submit the requested documents (see their website) and pay about 244 dirhams. Your Transit Visa will be ready in no more than two days. Should there be a problem and your Transit Visa is not ready within two days and the clock on your four days for export is running out, VFS TasHeel will give you the necessary extension. Once you have your Transit Visa, you have 72 hours to make your passage into and out of Saudi Arabia.
I was told all of this today over the phone by a representative from VFS TasHeel. This rep responded by phone ten minutes after I had sent off an email with detailed questions I had about the entire process of getting both export documents and the Transit Visa. Apparently, they encounter this situation all the time, and though the whole process looks intimidating on paper, VFS TasHeel will work with you to make sure you are able to leave the UAE with your export vehicle in a timely manner.
Here is a previous thread on doing the same from the UAE. I imagine most of the steps, if even possible, are similar.................http://www.qatarliving.com/cars-0/posts/relocating-abu-dhabi-doha
