Cock Up By Qtel

Qtel has proved to be a huge cock up for me.

Last Wednesday night I bought a Hala Prepaid card for my mobile phone and a Hala Broadband Prepaid card for my USB dongle. The USB dongle is a Huawei 367 and is fully unlocked. I paid 50 Riyals for the phone sim and 250 Riyals for the broadband sim.

After coming home while trying to connect even though the modem was picking up full signal I kept getting Error 619. I tried everything possible.

Then I went to the nearest Qtel shop in City Centre. It took after 20 minutes to get them to understand what the problem was. They they told me that my details were not in the system but I can still use the broadband sim and they told the settings. This was after tossing me from one sales person to another.

Went back home. Same problem.

Next day went to the Qtel shop in Landmark with my laptop and they were still not able to sort out the problem. They said they can't register the sim from their shop and I have to go to the shop where I bought it from. No cooperation from their side what so ever.

Next day went to the airport shop.

One grumpy salesperson. Filipino guy. I was really surprised by his rude attitude because all the Filipinos I know are very polite. He spend 1 hour trying to figure out what the problem was. His assistant girl a Filipino said it has not been registered. When I asked her why she said that they were very busy. I made them fetch my application and id photocopies which I had submitted 3 days ago and told them to ensure it was registered.

Till today it is not registered. When I go to the Qtel site to registered for Nojoom my details are not phone even for the phone card.

At the airport shop they said they can't give a refund because the money has already gone to the headoffice. So now to the surt the net I just have to use my mobile phone.

Very incompetent and rude service. They don't have any product knowledge. I wonder if it is any better with Vodafone?

Please also advice me about the landline broadband service of Qtel before I buy that.

Finally got it going. Qtel could not get it working. I just changed the APN. Funny they could not figure it out. Working fine. I get about 5 mb/s speed. Thank you everyone for your advice. It is the same model that Qtel uses - Huawei 367. I got it brand new from India for about 150 riyals whereas Qtel sells its for 399 Riyals.

Just out of curiosity, are you using a Lenovo laptop? I had an Error 619 with a 3G modem while on a trip overseas. The modem worked fine on other PCs/Laptops. Did a bit of reseach and found out that the problem is with the default RAS drivers. Found a tool called RARepair online and it fixed the problem.

Why did waste your time going to City Center, Landmark and airport. Those people have no responsibility about your connection problem! They are sales and customer service. Not the technician. You should go directly to QTEL main office in Al Sadd to get proper attention and advise from concerned parties.

there are 2 available mobile broadband service qtel is providing.

1. Shahry mobile broadband

2. Prepaid mobile broadband

When you plugin your USB device to your computer. It will install the driver and interface.

Make sure that when you connect select "Prepaid mobile broadband". otherwise it will not connect.

Also check the APN settings which is usually "web.qtel" or "gprs.qtel"

This is what i did when i purchased my prepaid broadband who at 1st did not work but thanks to the nice Qatari lady in Qtel Alkhor, she taught me the procedure.

Oh but they do, they do have Customer Service. It just seems that COURTESY is not a qualification. It's kind of OPTIONAL.

Occasionally you see smiling and gracious faces, but suddenly when it comes to your purpose or complaint for that matter, it's kinda like you've hit a brick wall.

If you have facebook, post in the wall of Qtel. They will get back to you soon and resolve the issue.

Voices made in the public is so effective than one to one conversation. Not sure whether this is the power of 'Freedom of Speech' :P
