car safety

Hello,

I need some advice about buying a new car, I have read that driving in this country is dangerous, and I am concerned about safety especially that I have a family. I did some research about car safety, I found that 3 safety features should be available as standard features for car safety which are: ABS (Anti-lock braking system), ESC (Electronic stability control), and airbags (front, side and curtain), what I found also that the performance of SUV's and the luxury cars was poor in side crash test if they don't have side and curtain airbags.

I check for car models online but what is available in the market is different. For example Nissan Tiida on the Nissan website has front, side and curtain airbags, while in the showroom in Qatar there wasn't even as an option. They told me it is not available.

My question: Do anybody know which car models have the 3 safety features (price between 60.000-100.000 QR)

Thanks

Also, doctor34, if you break down the statistics you will find that although there are an astonishing number of fender-benders here in Qatar, the fatal accidents almost invariably involve wildly excessive speed, "improper overtaking" and the non-use of seatbelts. If you don't indulge in these activities you will be annoyed on the road but you and your children will be bodily intact.

Thanks a lot people

macquyver I understand that "if it's your time, it's your time" but I think it is logical to take the maximum safety standards when you drive in dangerous country.

In Europe they have much less car accidents but they take the maximum safety standards, thats why Nissan’s Qashqai exceeded all sales expectations (Qashqai received maximum points in Euro NCAP’s crash test)

I don't care if my car has Bluetooth or keyless entry blah blah… as much as I care about safety, but I think the majority of people in Doha don't know a lot about car safety and that’s why they accept low safety standards.

Chadqa, Sure I will go to Toyota and check that Yaris

Anyway here is what I found until now, Cars which have all the three safety features:

The majority of big 4wheel models (full option)

Honda CRV full option 136K

Honda Civic VTi 80k

Mazda 6 full option

I don't know about suzuki and mitsubishi but I will go and check, I heard that Suzuki sx4 sedan has them all.

Of course I prefer to start with japanese

macquyver i'd disagree with you, many accidents would not have been fatal if people wore seatbelts.

one more thing, no matter how big your car is or how fully-equipped your vehicle is with the latest safety gadgets, if it's your time, it's your time and nobody can stop that...

BUT would you take it on?

I can forgo all of those if I could squash the buggers.

My thoughts are my own, but I doubt my Mum would agree with some of them.

Sherman tank. No airbags, no ABS, no AC, but full metal plates and bullet proof. Needs a little bit of fuel, but that's not an issue here.

deedee, thats because the population is so low. The stat i feel does not paint an accurate picture of the quality of driving.

jackmohan, really, can a CRV be taken to the desert? even a 2005 model? its not a 4x4

i'd love it if it can be

No matter which vehicle, accident chances is great. Qatar is full of mad drivers, a trend, almost a culture. Good luck to your safe car hunt.

somewhere that said Hyundai Tucson were excellent, hence why he got me one. Nissan Pathfinders are great.

However over here, given the chance I would drive a Sherman Tank. The driving is that bad.

My thoughts are my own, but I doubt my Mum would agree with some of them.

whatever safety features of the car have wouldn't save you from stupid drivers here, but it will lessen the injuries. if you have family, go for SUVs.I think volvo has the number 1 safety feature according to some magazines.

HONDA CRV's full option model has all the features that you are looking for. Yes, it's quite expensive but nothing is more expensive than life itself. Safety is second to none especially when it comes to protecting your own family.

Well, I'm not sure it's a matter of accepting low safety standards. It's a matter of choosing to pay more for them - or not.

Honda CRV is excellent but only the full-option model has all the safety featurs which make it quite expensive for my pocket.

I don't understand why people accept low safety standards in such dangerous country.

www.honestjohn.co.uk

Here in middle east your probably best going bigger an SUV rather than a saloon. And for gods sake wear all seatbelts, get proper child seats.
