Car Insurance questions
Hello everyone, here are 2 questions for you.. please help if you can
1) My current car insurance runs out at the beginning of August. I will not be driving the car in August as I won't be in the country. Must I renew my car insurance for the day after it expires at the beginning of August, or can I wait until I come back? Obviously I understand that it is illegal to drive without insurance and I wouldn't attempt to drive it uninsured but in some countries, eg. UK, it is illegal to not have insurance in force for a vehicle whether being driven or not. Is it the same in Qatar? I wouldn't like to leave it for a month only to find out that I have a fine or penalty waiting for me.
2) My insurance is with Doha Insurance and is fully comprehensive but has a massive 5,000QR deductible excess. There is no way in God's faire heaven that I will renew with this company unless I am forced to. There are no accidents on the policy. Can I shift to a cheaper and more realistic insurance company, or am I compelled to stick with this company for the life of the vehicle?
Thank you for all the tips. I would certainly be interested in a premium which costs 4% of annual value and has a deductible of 500QR. Is this applicable to sports cars however, which this car is? It is a Mercedes SLK. I heard that for this type of car it is much more expensive than the usual 4%..
Here are the correct and accurate answers from a person who owns 3 cars.
1. buy new Full Insurence policy with Al Khaleej Insurence with an excess amont of QR 500.
2. No need Third party Insurence if you are not driving car on the road
3. Premium around 4% of the car value.
4. OIC won't renew insurence if you have more than 3 accidents a year (I had 4 costing QR 7500 for them and I didn't even pay for the premium. It came as a Gift from the car agent) so told bye to them and join with Al Khaleej next day. No question was asked and no physical Inspection of the car carried out :)
1) once your comprehensive insurance expires, you'll only be covered on a third party insurance for a month. there wont be any fine, even from the traffic department. for renewing your road permit, after it expires you'll still have a month to renew it before you'll be penalized.
2)yes you can change your insurance company, however there are some insurance company that would not accept or renew the insurance of your car, and they will tell you to go back to your original insurance company. this is to protect themselves, if you have any clame and your premium will go up. hope this helps :)
