Avoid being a victim of theft while on vacation
Vacations are a time of rest and relaxation. We flock to foreign destinations to run away from our stresses, take in the sights, and learn about beautiful cultures and different people. Regardless of these whimsical expectations, many people have had the misfortune of falling victims to theft and fraud while away. Here is a list of precautions and pointers to keep you safe on your travels.
1. Be careful with your credit card! This cannot be stressed enough. Try to use your credit card as minimally as possible or use it in large known establishments. Using prepaid credit cards and traveller checks can be helpful as well. Carrying cash is useful, but again, you may not want to carry too much.
- 2. Don’t take out large amounts of cash and then run around the streets in foreign country. Be discreet in drawing cash and try to go back to your hotel, put it in the safety deposit box, and only carry around what you need. Often getting your hotel’s transportation to bring you to a currency exchange then wait for you, and bring you back can be a great way to keep safe. Sounds like a painful process but it’s better than being mugged.
- 3. Keep your appearance low-key. Don’t wear flashy or expensive jewelry and try not to attract too much attention to yourself as you may be threatening not just your cash, but also your safety.
- 4. Be aware of your surroundings and do not trust or go with people you don’t know. Try not to be alone at night in places you are unfamiliar with and, when possible, try to be in groups or with friends in the evenings.
- 5. When travelling in crowded spaces, for instance trams, subways, etc. Always take extra precautions with your belongings. Wear your backpacks in front of you; keep a hand where your pocket is. And try as much as possible to keep valuables in your safe at the hotel.

Wise words.. Be careful and have joys on holiday
