I need HELP with my car!!!!!

I got myself a Suzuki Sidekick (1995 model) last year and the first 6 months were problem-free. Now that I have to re-new the car registration, I’ve been taking PANADOL regularly to abate the headaches I’ve been getting. All the parts that need to be fixed, replaced, cleaned, painted or buffed, I had it done. Except for one…

There’s this one part in the engine called MAP SENSOR (Parts # 18590-61A00) that controls the black smoke emission (that’s what the mechanic said to me) that needs to be replaced. Of all the luck in the world, the sole Suzuki parts distributor in Doha doesn’t have it!!! The outlet sales person that my car engine is Canadian-made (huh???) and out modeled that they no longer sell those items… Can anyone direct me to parts dealer/seller in Doha, Dubai, Bahrain (or anywhere on this planet) where I could buy that “&%^%#$%@” piece?

Yeah…the first suggestion will be is to sell the car. I can’t because that would mean I have to go back to hiring private cars, carpooling, and (much dreaded) waiting for a taxi to come my way…

I’m getting (slowly getting to be) desperate about this so ALL suggestions/advises/information are welcome….

HELP!!!!

BAD NEWS...the car is actually 1992 model (4 cylinder) Canadian version from Cami-Automotive Inc. That's what I found on the side of the driver's seat. 'Took note of all the serial numbers I could find but no luck.

GOOD NEWS (I hope)... when I checked the link you said, the A213-1767 ACDELCO All Makes-MAP Sensor (Part# 18590-80C20) is the closest thing I could find similar to what was installed in my car. ACDELCO has 2 authorized dealers here in DOHA, Jaidah Motors and Mannai Corp.

LAST ALTERNATIVE...I'll have to rely on Osos (I hope he reads this)to get me this in Dubai.

Keeping my fingers crossed with this one...thanks for the help...

If you know someone on base you can probably get it shipped to you in 10 days, I have no idea how long international to a Doha box would take.

Hmmm- which personality is coming out today?

Where would the part would be coming from? How long do you think it will take to arrive in Doha if I order it?

You got the right number for your vehicle, the right part for the motor, but the two do not go together. At some point your motor was swapped which means you will not find the part for your suzuki and will have to search by the Geo's information

http://catalog.autopartsgiant.com/RenderScriptTemplate.epc?_cmd=epccat_VehicleWHD&cookieID=21J0TTVV721K0QN8AB&mode=PA&subcatid=76@@MAP%20SENSOR@@3157&clientid=autopartsgiant

is the link to the MAP Sensor for the Geo Tracker motor. AC Delco shows it as the correct one cross referenced to you part. About $200 USD

It’s called MAP SENSOR (Parts # 18590-61A00). And the VIN (is that the chassis number?) 2S3TA017L6405595

The engine’s a 1300(cc?), 8-valve engine, manufacture date was May 1990, Canada version. I think you’re right Tyler, it must be a Geo Tracker Motor brand. No parts dealer/seller of that brand here in Doha, either. And when I bought the car (2nd hand) .there was no manual…I’ll be checking that website.

Thanks for the info, Kofe…at least now I know what that is for… That goes to show you what I know about cars (or is it a jeep?)

Hey, Osos…I’ll treat you to coffee (and blueberry cheesecake on the side) if you can help me get/buy this MAP sensor thingy… ;-)

I’ll go to that website, Novita ...thanks

I really appreciate this, guys…;-)

The suzuki sidekick and Geo Tracker shared the same platform and in the later years (as is your case) the same engine as well. I would go with tyler's recommendation.

The MAP sensor (Manifold Absolute Pressure) is a sensor that assists your vehicles computer in determining air pressure and air density, with this information your vehicle can then determine how much fuel to provide the engine with, I suspect that with a faulty MAP sensor your engine would probably automatically default to a "Rich" setting aka more fuel than is needed, this would mean that your car would not be burning all the fuel and would have black smoke coming from the exhaust correct? so your mechanic was partially right but it wasn't a very detailed answer. Get that MAP sensor and your fuel economy will improve dramatically as well as that black smoke will disappear.

Please provide your VIN so that the correct engine code can be obtained. Also please rpovide engine details as 4 engines were available that year. You should be able to find this information in the owner's manual. The key is CC's and number of valves.

If you use this information you can then use

http://catalog.autopartsgiant.com to find the part

Just to let you know the part # you have provided is for a 1990 Geo Tracker Motor. I would be willing to bet the site gets you the correct part more so than the mechanic here.
