Americans buying cars
Hi all,
We are Americans trying to buy a car here in Qatar. We have run into a problem that I am hoping some of you can help me with. My husband works for an American company here and he gets paid through the American company into our American bank account. His company is incapable of making direct deposits overseas as of yet. Is there a bank here that would help us if we can set up a wire transfer from our bank in the US? We have already gone through QNB and they said they can't help us. We heard that Commercial Bank might be able to help us, but we don't want to open an account at another bank just to be told that they can't finance us either. Any ideas/info?? We would greatly appreciate it.
Ohh, I wouldnt go near HSBC with a 10 foot pole.

Well try HSBC as it has branches all over the world as I'm quiet sure that they might be helpful as they claim to be WORLD'S LOCAL BANK

I sent you a message
Acadian - is the CBQ branch inside of landmark? Do you know the manager's name?

I am sure he can set it up
You can go to the landmark branch and ask for the manager. He works mornings
Acadian - my hubby's company can't send his wages over here yet, that's why they are deposited into our account in the US. I am wondering if a bank here can debit our US bank account for the car payments?? We can set up a wire transfer, but we have to go back to the US and do it in person because of the new bank policies from 9/11.

I am working for an American firm and they send my wages monthly to the CBQ. Your best bet is to go to the landmark branch and ask for the manager. He is very helpful and has dealings with expats that work for US,Candian and European companies that transfer wages to Qatar
When we bought our car we had a wire transfer from our bank in the US directly to the automobile dealer. Took a couple of days but all went well. We paid about $50 for the transfer.
Mandi
i agree with tallg ,thats a good suggestion... nothing to lost ,right?
I had bought Brits favorite car lol.... a Kia Sorento. There were never any issues with them cashing the cheques early, and all went smoothly but as I said I am not sure if they asked for salary letters or bank statements, to save time you can call a few of the agencies.

Thanks everyone.
Like I said earlier Dmigty, his company can't direct deposit overseas yet, so we would have to go to the ATM machine and make several withdraws and then deposit them into our bank account here.
Tallg - that's a good idea, but we are trying to buy our rental. It was purchased new just for us, now we want to buy it so we can cut the payment in half. We signed a 2 year agreement on renting it, so if we try and get out of that agreement, we have to pay penalty fees. They will let us buy it to get out of the agreement.
We are also trying to buy a second car for me, and it would be through a dealership.
Amoud, which dealership did you use when you bought your car? Did they deposit your checks on time every month? no mishaps in depositing early? The reason I ask is we don't have the cash to buy these vehicles outright.
My hubby makes good money and we can afford both the cars. We are going to pay them off before we go home in 2 to 3 years and take them with us so we don't have to buy vehicles again once we are home.
Any more ideas??

The bank is looking for a salary transfer DMS, and US companies generally dont do that as it can also run them in some risk for taxation and auditing purposes.
Your only hope is to pay cash as it is very hard to get a bank to finance you if they have no guarantee (such as your salary transfer). I financed a car through the dealership and had to write them cheques for the duration of the loan period. I am not sure what the pre-requisite is on such a thing but you can check with a dealership as they have agreements with some banks as back home.

Buy from another american expat and transfer direct to their us bank account
that's what we did
what's the problem putting your money here. It's the same money you will use to pay your car, isn't it?
