ADVICE NEEDED ON VERBAL ABUSE OR HARASSMENT

chameleon
By chameleon

Can we lodge a complaint against our superior to the Labor Department or the National Human Rights Committee on the grounds of verbal abuse / harassment? If so, does anybody know on how to go about this? This person has already brain-washed the sponsor so there is little chance that he will listen to our sentiments.

BTW, can I call 999 to come and help us if he starts bashing and cussing/using profanities at us? We are all females. We are on the verge of losing our minds and suffer nervous breakdown as we are subjected to this kind of treatment almost everyday. Please give advice.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Good luck! I hope it works out for you. If nothing else (as in, if this person makes your life even more difficult at work after you file the complaint), I'd use the issue adn your recordings to speak to your sponsor. Are you sure he wouldn't hear it? That said, if the sponsor still won't do anything to stop this man, with proof of what he's been doing, your sponsor might be persuaded to give you the NOC and your leaving benefit if you should have to leave. that way at least you can stay in Qatar and get another job :S It's a tough situation adn the visa laws here don't make it any easier!

I'm not really being facetious here when I ask if verbal abuse and harassment are illegal in Qatar?

When your Superior Starts to use abusive language/Bashing, call 999, and if possible make a Video as well, it would be considered as a Proof & Witnesses Should not back out, usually have seen ample of times when the Case is Legitimate but at the End Witnesses Back out....

Legally, Police will handover the Investigation to CID, & then CID would start taking the Interviews of the Witnesses & any evidence related to the Crime as well...

I dont think the court will charge for the criminal case. If you complain to pol dep, they will start an investigation for getting an evidence, and if they have enough they will start a criminal case. After all this procedures, police transfer docs to the court, and there the court will put a final decision. U dont have to pay anything, this is the relations between gov and that criminal person. It shouldn be civil, in this case, yes, you have to pay charges.

Use your cell phone and have his profanities recorded and then produce it to the police/court as evidence. I’m sure he'll get screwed big time.

Ofcourse there are charges, court is not working for free!!!!!!!!!!

make sure your witnesses wont back out on the last minute. Usually, when the going gets tough, you'll find yourself alone in the fight.

Its gonna be a tough one and worse comes to worst, they/he could fabricate stories against you and you'll find yourself in deep crap , "alone".

What?! there is charges if my compalin goes to court? do you know approximatly how much I should pay if I filed the case? If it costs alot I will cancel the complain as I am afraid I will pay more than what I will take if I won the case!

And if you file a complaint be ready for the money you will lose in the court and The money which the court will charge you, IS NOT SMALL AMOUNT.

Believe me, I have gone through court/cases alot.

OPTION 1. Throw the resign on his desk.

OPTION 2. Go to the Ministry of Interior , located in Um-mughlina, and file a complaint against him.

Yes you can file a complaint against your superior... however, you have to be ready of the possible consequences of your action. It's either:

A: You'll get fired

B: He'll keep an eye on every thing that you do and look for a single small mistake and make it a big deal

C: The more he will annoy you in every possible way until you cannot bear it anymore and resign.

D: File a counter complaint against you, so it will be your word against his/her (I hope you can speak arabic to defend yourself better though)

E: Might influence your sponsor to have your visa cancelled due to "whatever made-up/fabricated reason he could make"

The choice is yours., Go ahead and file a complaint.....

It's always easier said than done though :(

Just wishing you Good luck! :)

If yyou have voice recording, that will work a lot... Go to Police Dept, and explain them, getting some eye witness will be more beneficial...

Wish u all the best..

I have voice recordings and witnesses as proof. Video recording would be difficult to do though.

Thanks again:)

Movie would be better. But in the end a group of witnesses ready to give the statements is required.

you can also do voice recording for proof. record everything that he will say, or put some videocam.

Perhaps. But blasphemy carries a much stronger penalty.

Thank you dears. BTW, we have proof and witnesses to support our claim.

@doha186 - This underworld character is not Qatari but kissing the ass of one.

@MM – I tried talking to him diplomatically but people with mental disorder do not listen to reason and need professional treatment (lol). Leave the company? Not an option for us at the moment as you know the rules here. We still need the income to survive.

@2020 – Nothing blasphemous but can he be jailed for calling a female subordinate a mother effer and SOB?

Anyone in Qatar can be punished for blasphemy but it is important to have witnesses always.

why? what's wrong with qatari people? are they God that we have to be afraid of??? Not all qatari people are rude...main point here is being verbally abused/harrassed...

Best you becareful what you say, as you know the old saying?

It takes one to know one - You OBVIOUSLY don't spend all your time poking your nose around QL, do you?

Most of the answers will come from easy life / fat pay people, they don't have a grass root level experience of how to deal in a situation as yours', I strongly believe that.

It will be better to warn him to behave, on the side try to leave this company over a period of time, bear financial losses than health my sister.

Make sure you have supporting witnesses then go to the police. If he is using blasphemy he can expect jail time.

go and complain to police department and notify the labor office with the abuse being done to you.. if many of you will come and complain more than likely they will be in favor of you.. do not leave this thing unreported so as to stop the abuse.
