95% of Taxi Drivers have NO idea where to go!

It is becoming clearer and clearer every time I get in a taxi that 95% of the drivers have zero idea of where to go. I could honestly tell a donkey and i'd have more luck at getting to the destination.
In many cities across the world drivers either need to have an in depth knowledge of the city or need a SatNav to be able to work as a taxi driver.
Here in Qatar it seems that any Indian that falls off the ship can become a taxi driver which is frustrating and dangerous for single females.
Qatar needs to address the problem.

"Expatgeezer said I paid a limo QR180 plus QR20 ...

I paid a limo QR180 plus QR20 tip from Sheraton to near Midmac R/A. Yes it was a BMW 5 series driven by a filipino. owned by the hotel"

I paid that much for a one way trip to Bahrain. Yes it was an Airbus A320 flown by an Indian, owned by BahrainAir. Fortunately the pilot knew where to go.

Agree, this is my frustration, my 'girl'friend is here and the taxi driver had no idea where to go and dropped her off in a strange city miles from where she wanted to be.

Please does anyone have a direct contact for complaining???

I had a visitor in a taxi. I asked my visitor to describe where he was and tell the taxi driver to take the next right.

Driver refused - said the road was closed. The driver had to stop 5 times for directions.

He spoke neither English or Arabic and couldnt' read a map.

I called Mosawlat. The turnip on the phone didn't speak good English and wasn't very polite. I NEVER got a the return call I was promised.

This happens ALL ALL ALL the time....

The drivers who wear red hanger they rent the Taxi for 265 Qr. per day regardless of what they earn and they pay it before they leave Karwa park ,

By the way most of them cheat in the meter (0 instead of 1) tariff plan .

Also those guy always asks you where you wana go ?

The drivers who wear blue hanger are Karwa staff ,those have much more experience

By the way equal percentage of Karwa drivers are here from India, Nepal, Bangladesh and a significant number from Sri Lanka & Kenya. So interesting to note that you mentioned only India there and if it's only Indian drivers who don't know their way around then the figure of 95 % is wrong.

Its the tricks of the trade of an intelligent driver.

If the passenger knows the route, well & good !

Else the driver takes the longest route!!!

I guess this attitude is to an extent due to the fact that the drivers have to pay a huge rental for the car irrespective of customers or distance travelled in such traffic delays.

baldrick , yes, they have NO clue. I took a limo once from the Hyatt Regency....needed to go to Airport Road...the guy had no clue how to get there. And that was a HOTEL LIMO. I gave him half of what he charged...I told him once he knows where he is going, I pay him full.

They have the idea but they pretend they don't so that they may use a longer route to charge more money from you.

They don't go anywhere. They just sit in their cars.
