Filipina Alleges Rape By Man Pretending to be Cop

DUBAI - A 28-year-old Emirati stood trial on Sunday on the charges of rape and impersonation. He has been accused of raping a Filipina, who works as a waitress, after posing as a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officer.

The case is being heard in the Criminal Court of First Instance. The 27-year-old victim told the court that on the day the crime was committed, she was on her way to Iranian Hospital with three friends at 3.30 am. The defendant stopped their car pretending to be a police officer and asked for ID proofs. As the victim was carrying only the copy of her passport, the defendant asked her to step aside. Her friends were asked to leave. He allegedly pretended to call his superior. He then informed her that her name was not listed in the immigration system. When he got a call from the victim’s friend, he offered to drop her near her workplace in Al Aweer.

He later took her to the building and allegedly raped her at knifepoint. The victim returned home and told her roommates that she had been raped and lodged a complaint with the police. The next hearing is scheduled for April 8.
