Filipino Discrimination at United Bank Limited

This morning, at 8:30AM, I called my bank, United Bank Limited [UBL] and I was inquiring about their facilities of deferment of payment for my personal loan. I was entertained by the Bank Representative, and she told me to call the Collection Department through Customer Care Service. After some time in the afternoon, I received a call from the Bank Representative saying that the bank did not approve my application for deferment of payment for this month because of 2 reasons, one, I have an overdue payment for my car loan only for the month of October and the second shocking reason is that I am a Filipino. I told the Bank Representative that my nationality and the color of my skin has nothing to do with my personal loan. The reply I got was that Filipinos have the highest incident of overdue payments. My payment for my personal loan was never delayed since the beginning and this was my second application for this scheme.

What was not acceptable to me was the racial discrimination of Filipinos as a whole. This bank should not approve of such application depending on the color of the skin and nationality. UBL should re-think of how to approach their clients professionally and UBL must apologize to the Filipino Community for this.
