Childhood...now & then.

Pahinga muna po tayo sa mga mala tele-serye na lovey-dovey threads & this time, let's try to look at issues that directly affects us.

I’m sure many of us have listened to stories from our parents & grandparents on how they lived their childhood. Many of them experienced an array of struggles & hardships... paglalakad sa eskewela, pag igib ng tubig, etc... in life but in the end, they were able to overcome these & have led successful lives. Gain with so much pain.

Times have changed though. Today, the youth’s worries in life are cellphone load, on-line games, mobile phones, allowance, new shoes, etc etc. Kids are no longer introduced to responsibilities at an early age but instead, the maids or yaya’s do it from them. In our elementary days, we have to throw out the trash & clean the house so we can have a decent allowance. But today, parents see this as child abuse & instead, pamper their kids with MSG laden fast foods & PSP. See the rise of obese kids these days? Most parents would say they wouldn't like their kids to suffer as they did, so, they give them everything within their reach na walang kahira-hirap. Kaya marami sa kabataan ngayon, hindi sanay sa hirap, hindi sanay sa challenges. Para silang Lion na pinalaki sa zoo na nawala na ang kanilang hunting instincts o diskarte sa buhay.

I worry about the environment we are giving our children. An environment were learning about responsibility, living within means & necessity, & value for education is no longer introduced.

Sa mga parents, what environment are we giving our children?
