Schools in Doha
Hi everyone! I just joined this forum and would really appreciate some advice for our family as we get set for relocating from the UK to Doha. I have 3 children aged 4, 10, and 12 and most concerned about securing schools for them to make their transition and settling in smoother. Have heard scary posts about children unable to go to school until their RP is secured and that that may take up to 6 months! Does this mean that children have to stay at home doing nothing until the family residence permit is processed? Please please advise! Another question is which schools do you recommend, especially ones with nearby walking distance compound... is that possible in Doha? We love walking to school...Thank you!
Some schools may also allow your children to attend if you can show the RP is under process. A lot will depend on the company's PRO's ability to work the system. Start contacting schools NOW as the better ones tend to have waiting lists depending on what year your child will be attending.
Thank you both. Another question: is it a huge change to shift to IB curriculum (as opposed to IGCSE? Considering Qatar Academy-any thoughts on this school? Thx
Hi Suzanne. Welcome to Qatar. We have relocated to Qatar this year. Yes, children do require an rp in order to attend school. You will need to submit 6 months of your husbands qatar bank/ salary statements in order to begin your rp process. Most schools will open in September, so getting a place reserved may be a problem unless the school is a brand new school. Hope that helps. All the best.
Welcome to Qatar.
Some of the stories are exagerated.
Yes, you need to have the RP, but it can be done quickly - depends on your company.
Places in any school, let alone good schools are at a premium. You need to apply early.
Walking to and from school is not really an option because of the weather - however, if you find one close enough to your residence , then it might be possible.
