Friends, i had severe problem in my ADSL connectivity beig cut off on frequent interval of 15 minutes and I had posted my doubts in QL columns.

As suggested, I have a purchased a new modem ( this time not from QTel, but LinkSys Wireless G ) .

To protect the life of this modem, I wish to know, whether I should switch of the modem at night ? Is it a safe mode ? Or frequnet switch off / on daily will create problems ?

Yeah! Nothing matters with those precious bandwidth and no extra cost to you...

Keep it open so the world can use your bandwith and bear the slow connection and frequent hanger.... plus a chance of being hacked....

At least somebody should ask permission if they want to use your toilet...

have a nice weekend..

It dose not really make any difference if you keep the modem on all the time, please make sure the modem is not fixed close to CPU for proper ventilation. You may have to restart your modem once in a while for connectivity problems. This will benefit your neighbor too if they have wireless connection at no extra cost to you (think positive).

its better to keep it off when ur not using. When ur switching off the router the NAT caches will get cleared. So u can avoid hanging while working. What is the master of wasting the precious bandwidth for anonymous users(if ur WLAN is open.

As per my experience, I don't have trouble keeping my modem open all the time. You'll just have to reset (off and on the power) if you cannot connect and feel that it hanged (and this seldom happens, maybe once in 2 months). And Yes QaQc is right, place it in a cool place. Some friends even used to buy a small/portable fan to keep it cool, but i don't think it is necessary.

You can keep it open all the time to save you the trouble of waiting for connection every time you need it.

Ohh, and keep it secured so nobody can steal or access your signal, it is probably one of the cause of frequent hanging if too many users are connected to your network (free) and down loading large amount of bytes.

Goodluck!
