Is getting Financial Aid from Qatar Foundation Difficult?

I am 19 Malaysian & have received a letter of offer from Carnegie Mellon Uni in Qatar at EduCity to study Information Systems. My worry is the difficulty of gaining Financial Aid for my education. My mum is a single mum and was divorced almost a decade ago and I never have any communication with my father after the divorce, let's just say he 'divorced' my sister and I as well.

I'd love to study in this awesome Uni and in process of applying for Financial Aid from QF, my mother will not be able to pay for the high education and cost of living expenses in Qatar and I am rather worried about not being able to get the Financial Aid. My mum has paid for deposit for reply acceptance to Carnegie Mellon Uni as well as Qatar Foundation for Housing Damage Deposit and Housing Reservation and these already amounted to USD 1,100. Three quarter of her salary here in Malaysia. She works as a government servant only.

If there's anyone out there who can assist me with regards to this question:

Can the Financial Aid include the following as well:

1. Flight to Doha which is also very expensive, the cheapest one way flight to Doha is more than USD 1,000 by Qatar Airlines,
2. Living allowances for my 4 years education in EduCity Qatar,
3. All fees to Carnegie Mellon Uni including books, materials and other miscellaneous expenses

If I am not able to receive the Financial Aid, I sadly would not be able to further my education in this awesome Uni. Please do help me to answer these questions. I tried writing to QF but they are so busy with so many mailing traffic, I guess not easy to answer me at this particular moment. However I salute and take my hat off to the Admission Director of Carnegie Mellon Uni in Qatar, Mr. Bryan Zerbe and his fantastic team at CMU as they always answer me within 24 hours no matter how stupid my request maybe. I am forever indebted to his assistance towards me.

I do not mind being bonded to work in Qatar to pay off the Financial Aid from Qatar Foundation. For me, this is a way of gaining a quantum leap for my future. Thank you all for your insights.

Heeey, GRATTZZZZ there, i'm really happy for you, I applied to at cmuq at the it major to be with ma friends, but i was rejected and was put on the waiting list ;(, But I was accepted in TAMUQ which is alot better than CMUQ, so I WILL be a collegue :D

anyway, Almost everyone applies for the financial aid, and I rarely heard of guys being rejected in it, anyway, its a Need-Based aid, that means that whomever really needs it, will get it, so, if your words are true, then you Really need it, so, if you apply all the needed stuff and gave all the information required in the online application (which is HELL WAY TOOOO MUCH) they will surely know your cirumstances and will believe that you need that financial aid, concerning the other questions, if you live outside of qatar (Malasyia) you will take an annual ticket, I guess monthly expenses as well, and they will pay 100% of the tutition fees, thats what I heard anyway, and adding to what you said, the statistics says that about 95-98% of the freshmen students at QF, will not attend their colleges if they didnt recieve the financial aid (including me :D).

Well, I hope the best of luck to you, and I hope to see you on Campus soon Isa :D

if you have any questions, DONT hesitate to call me on 9746473676 or at [email protected]
