Laging Ginagawa (Always at the repair shop) we tried different LG products like TV, DVD player, Mobile, Vacuum,  before but this expression that I heard seems to be true.

i went to LULU yesterday and a filipino salesman introduced a new LG time machine with built-in 8GB hdd and usb on the monitor itself.  you can record a program from your tv if you want to watch it again. it also has "TIME SHIFT" which according to him, you can watch a program that u missed. i don't know but i this is how he explained it to me.u can check it out if u want. the resolution with a regular player is just ok. a little bit pale but atleast a brighter than sony.

I bought a 52" Samsung LCD tv from Virgin - and I love it! With the home cinema system and the Xbox 360 Elite set up for full-HD 1080p output, the picture is fantastic.

Just gotta save up for a blu-ray player now, and a suround system that can take an optical input.

thanks everyone for the detailed replies. i am also on the lookout for  an lcd but couldnt decide which one to go for. all the info really helped.

one question though my friend insisted i go for 'made in japan' and that too sony, will there be a significant difference?

i have compared SONY and SAMSUNG before also.  using a regular player, i think SAMSUNG gives a better color resolution tha SONY. sony is a little bit darker sometimes pale.  i would go for SAMSUNG!

I did substantive research on this topic. There are excellent Hi tech forums available on the net.

Be ware, Sony enhances pic quality in the showrooms with  an enhancer. Ask any of the sales staff to play normal TV - on the sony set and see the diff yourself. Never buy based on the images they show you in the show rooms. You will be very disappointed as pic quazlity drops by almost 40% without the enhancer. At least I am talking about Kuala Lumpur - since I have yet to get to Doha. So, I can only give you my two cents worth from here.

Secondly Sony does not manufacture LCD screens. Only Samsung and Sharp.

Sharp Aquos is considered the best technology as far as LCD TV goes and Panasonic is the best for Plasma.

On the other hand all the parameters change if you are talking about the full HD version. Mine is HD ready and for these panels Sony certainly does not manufacture the screens. Why must you pay premium for a sony when the screen is LG or Samsung - can not recall for sure which one.

I am very happy with the 42 inch Sharp Aquos I bought in KL in Sept 2007.

If you buy then buy 1080pixels. They are the latest.

Carry a good quality DVD of a fast action movie. Play it on the screen.

Check out the response time of the pixels (ie how fast they change), look at the image's edges - are they sharp or blocky or blurred? Some screens have

<0.3 (less than 3 micro seconds), some have <0.7, while some have <12.

Multiple Inputs - more the merrier - (1- Satellite receiver, 2-DVD player, 3-Gaming Console, 4-Computer, 5-Moziac TV ADSL) or a minimum of 3.

Brand wise all are nearly the same. The difference in the colour settings are

cause they are set  differently (on purpose I guess by the sales staff) to show inferior quality.

Most of these sales guys are pushing LG...may be they get more

commission on that.

But if you buy 1080 pixels you can be assured you have the best. Dont buy

plasma TV.

If you buy a 37inch + TV then you must have a Home Theater capable sound system if you can get one with THX certificate the better.

** look for 10,000 dynamic contrast or higher.

** most of the shops are using high difinition (hd) or blu ray to make their display more tempting. if you don't have hd or blu ray at home, ask the sales staff to turn off the hd or blu ray to see the quality of the screen without them.

** ask assistance of the sales staff. draw a line on the screen with your or his finger tip. observe the flow of the liquid crystal of the screen. you shall see the flow of the liquid like when you draw a line on the surface of the water. liquid crystal display (lcd) needs a fair amount of heat to burn the solid particles to liquid crystals and change it into real liquid only then you would enjoy the perfect crispness of your screen. the more liquid the clearer your monitor shows.

samsung has the best liquified crystal display (lcd) - observe when you draw a line on its screen.

sony is using samsung lcd screen

lg screen is hard and not too liquid - you would notice it when you draw a line too.

for info only: liquid crystals are very sensitive to temperature that's why they are used to make thermometers and mood rings. It also explains why a laptop computer display may act funny in cold weather or during a hot day at the beach.

btw, hi to everyone! it is my 2nd day in ql.

you should keep an eye on the following features when you are comparing LCDs.

1. 1080 native or ready, they not the same. I would suggest getting a native set.

2. Contrast ratio, this is very important as the brightness and clarity of contrast can be determined by the ratio. The higher the better.

3. Inputs, I would suggest a minimum of 2 HDMI inputs but 3 would be better.

4. Speaker power, many cheaper LCDs have poor speaker which are prone to distortion.

Look at the wattage on the specs.

No Hitachi. Either Sony or Samsung. Thats it. They are the best in market for now. Or you can google and compare it.

Everybody is right everybody is wrong it depends where you stand.
