Weatherstripping
By afsheen12770 •
My door has a gap and it is letting too much sand/dust into the house. The carpenter on sight does not know how to fix it. In the US, we have weatherstripping that would solve this matter. It is a small rubber piece that goes around the door to create a seal between the door and frame. Very simple, cheap and effective solution. Does anyone know where to find this in Doha?
what is it called and where in carrefour? every time i mention weatherstripping, people look at me funny. nice suggestions all, much appreciated!
Like TCOM says, Carrefour has exactly what you're looking for. It's very good quality german make. Priced around 40 QR. I am using one right now.
Go to any hardware store and get self adhesive strip. It is sold in Meters.
Check in Carrefour They have what you looking for
Silicone sealant or some kinda putty should work too...
Fathimah, lol, no, not at all. Just saw it at a friend's house and thought it was a good idea ! Plus, you can use nice fabric, so it does not only work well, but can look very nice too!
You used to work for the "Good Housekeeping" magazine, right? lol
actually I have the same issue. Just using an old rug to stuff in the gap.But your method certainly sounds good!
I have a quicker solution - buy children's plasticine/play dough. Just as effective!
If you can't find it, there is something else you can do. Make a "tube " shaped pillow, the length of your door, case out of fabric, fill it with rice, and close it tight. then attach some velcro along the door and on the pillow . Place the tube shaped pillow in front of your door (inside, of course) so it covers the gap. Attach velcro, and voila, problem solved!
