Please? For dishes and pots/pans. Any Williams-Sonoma or Pottery Barn? Or Macy's (type) stores? Also bedding-blankets, pillows.

Thanks-we should be leaving on the 29th!

B2Dogs Perhaps I should change the name I put on the entry slips to Mary Abdullah Catherine? Then I might have a better chance. Forget about FFC - that one's mine now that I have this new strategy.

Zara Home, in Villagio mall.. and Landmark Mall..

They take my vote for beddings, blankets, cutlery, etc.

Marycatherine - your name is not Hamad, Ahmed, Saif, etc. I've never seen a wester name win any of those, but fingers crossed for my 10 entries in FFC's draw.

There's a similar 'made in china' section in Dasman Centre.

If you are looking at making shopping pay you might also like to get an Air Miles card, then you can collect point from various outlets.

As B2Dogs says - no coupons but lots of chances to win a car or 4x4. Not that I know anyone that has ever won in the past 10 years :-( certainly not me.

I think you will find that the big hypermarkets (Lulu and Dasman for example) will often have inserts of about 4 pages total each month in the newspapers - it's not quite the same as we see in North America though.

Meant to mention Daiso (it's above Homes R Us in Hyatt Plaza) also has some cheap and cheerful china/pottery - and the kitchen gadget section can be fascinating because the labels are all in Japanese so you sometimes have to guess what they're used for.

No coupons but they do have regular draws to win a car.

THanks for all the great ideas. I have a friend who will take me shopping the first day I go, but it will be nice to recognize the names of where we are going and have other perspectives. And the newspaper thing! I love the ad days when in a new community. Do they have coupons in Doha-like for groceries, etc.?

There's a place on B ring road - I think it's called New House Complex. It is absolutely packed with everything imaginable relating to a kitchen.

Tavola also has an outlet in Royal Plaza that is bigger than the one B2dogs refers to. There are also a couple of high end bedding/linens shops in City Centre and Royal Plaza.

Home Centre has a variety of quality of sheets - be sure to measure your mattresses before you buy as there are a lot of odd sizes here.

Giant Carrefour etc., have some decent stainless steel pots and pans with heavy bottoms LOL (actually a plus when you're cooking)- there are the ubiquitous Tefal brand as well. It can pay to wander around in the various hypermarkets (Dasman, Safeer, Lulu, Carrefour, etc.) as you never know what kind of kitchen treasures may show up at very reasonable prices.

For kitchen knives, if you're just looking for good ones that you won't mind leaving behind, I like Prestige brand. If you're looking for really good knives - Henckels and other top quality brands are available at Tavola.

If you need cutlery, check out the "loose" ones available at Carrefour - that way you can buy as many as you need without buying more. I always found it irritating to have to buy 2 pks of 6 spoons for example when all I wanted were 8 spoons total. They're good quality steel and come in a variety of styles.
