Selling parking spaces?

camper

I was in City Centre the other day and the parking garage was full of these signs. Now I know that getting a parking spot in City Centre has been hell over the last year but people selling parking spots?

How much do they go for? Has anyone ever bought/sold one? I'd love to know how this goes down and at what cost... I guess after circling for 30 minutes on a Saturday I'd be happy to shell out a couple of dollars for a spot.

Crowded mall with limited parking bay and have to compete with crazy Land Cruiser, some lane with sharp corner and one way lane. Totally not worth to shop at CC.

Paid Parking would not solve the problem as at night time there are only CC customers in the parking lot not the outsiders. Paid or unpaid it would still be a problem.

It's not all Cargodog, I have an even brighter idea.

Why not charge everyone an entry fee which can be used as a credit to shop in any outlet, similar to the 'first drink' charge in some pubs.

This will no doubt weed out those undesirables even more thoroughly.

They can even turn this into a great PR by cooperating with various constructions and other companies whereby their 'Laborer for the Month' will be awarded with 5 free tickets (to bring along his mates) to enjoy CC just like the wealthies do. It will motivate them to work even harder as it surely beat the friday afternoon loitering around Al Fardan.

Cheers

You are discussing about parking problems in the CC whereas people are facing problems with the parking in front of their accomodation.

It is due to the poor planning. A country which could only face a maximum of 500000 population is now trying to cope up with 3 times more of it. Before that proper urban planning should have been done to avoid bottle necks.

Next thing whenever a building is constructed adequate allowance should be made for the parking and it should be in construction specifications.

All developers are getting permit to raise towers and get a huge fortune out of it. The real estate companies are busy in catching foreigners who do not have vehicles and driving license to show them accomodation of a third party at huge prices. There is no law actually and no standard.

Every body has invented a business and enjoying to rob others.

Not many of the towers have parking they got favors to build witout putting adequate parking. One day they will realize what a big mistake it is, but it will be too late to do anything about it. Many of the people working in the towers park at City Center.

Never mind Kaldoosh, the planners were westerners, so if anyone has to be blamed for poor planning then it has to be inefficient planners from the west. The Arabs just paid for what they thought was expert advice.

That's a brilliant idea, SK. Let's remove the last bit of "entertainment" there is for the not-so-wealthy in this country - oh and of course, implementing that idea, that exclude them from shopping in Carrefour. Oh well... I guess we can't have it all, but who cares, as long as we have capitalism. Right?!?! ;-)

Should have introduced a VERY STEEP parking fee instead of a mere 1 or 2 riyals per hour.

Then they can a put a system whereby customers that spend more than a minimum amount of money (500 riyals?) in any the shops will be waived that parking fee.

It will have the additional benefit of reducing those undesirable window shoppers and bachelors and let the wealthies to shop in comfort.

Capitalism at its best.....

SK

(I'll claim my fee if CC decide to implement this idea)

I read a statement in the newspaper from the CC management itself about 2 months back that they are introducing paid parking to 'make shopping at CC more convenient' by end of the year or early next year.

when I worked on building the city center we all laughed at the huge amount of parking provided. Something like 7% of all the cars in Qatar could be accommodated. Population has doubled and traffic increased at least threefold. City Center car parking spaces were reduced by building towers on either end, vacant land being developed etc.

Add to that all the towers around which were given permission without sufficient parking, the siting of busy ministries like Ashghal, Land Registry, Commercial Registration in areas where no parking existed and you have the recipe for total gridlock. AND remember that the majority of the towers are not yet finished. As my Lebanese friend said "Arabs and Planning do not mix"

I normally leave my second car, which we don't need, at a parking spot in CC. That way, if I need to go there on a busy day, I just move my second car and park my first car. Pretty clever, I thought. Now I just need to figure out what to do with the second, while shopping. ;-)

Why bother paying if you can crush in a parking spot with a LAND CRUISER???

Just as I was about to diligently enter a parking spot (after waited for the known spot for a while) with my tiny hired-car last night, a W*nk*r in Land Cruiser flew out of nowhere and tried to beat me by crashing into the spot. Luckily I was there first and beat him to it.

Gotta say, he wasn't too happy about me taking my deserving spot, and did the usual crybaby "honk" and dirty stare.

Oh well, guess I had the final say and that, "... why drive a Land Cruiser when size does not matter.." LOL

Must be a premtive move by CC with all the wonderful buildings coming in and around CC with their bare minimal parking bays. Parking in West Bay area is soon going to be nightmare just like CC on Thursdays and Fridays.

Luv the Qatar Navigation Tower for that reason - they have their own parking bldg - 30 parking slots per floor (or so they say)

Must congratulate the guy who's managed to pull it off - and it must might be quite a big problem for CC to put warning signs all over.

Next warning "it is illegal to leave CC with someone else's wife" :-) Just incase..

Yes camper some asians used to stand in the parking in front of their car and sell their parking for a price between 15 to 50 QR!(I guess even some drivers used the time they wait for the family to make some money!)

I advice u to go to Villageo its a bit easer to find parking there!

i was really shocked when i saw the warnings there, someone stole my idea :(
