rude sales staff at Damas

feynmansghost
By feynmansghost

One of the sales staff (whose name is Sadat) in the Damas branch in Lulu Hypermarket should be terminated from his job.

My friends and I were looking at the diamond jewelry on display at the shop and we were discussing as to whether it would be cheaper to buy diamonds back home.

Suddenly the sales staff (who happens to be from India) condescendingly told us "That is a diamond. I know people like you, you just look but you never buy anything."

I presume that when he said "people like you" he meant that we Filipinos should not even be seen browsing in their store because we couldn't afford their goods anyway since we come from a Third World Country.

Okay, i can ignore this poor ignorant man for his racist assumptions. What i cannot ignore is how the management can employ someone who is rude to the customers.

Unfortunately, Mr. Sadat assumed wrong. I have bought jewelry before from their store and so did my friend (not only gold jewelry but diamonds as well). You can be sure that we'll never patronize this store again.

TO

THE MANAGER

Sir,

I had a bad experiance in your branch located in LULU HYPER MARKET (near air port) on monday (19/4/2010).

i visited your shop with my family(including my 2 kids) for purchasing 10 bangles for my wife.all staffs are busy with their own matters.somebody busy with mobile.somebody laughing together.somebody in mouth watching.approximately 30 minutes we waited near the bangle counter.nobody asked me "what you want".no problem! leave it.i asked them can you show me the bangles?one of the "best sales man" show me one action by his hand.even after 10 minutes no responds.i was waiting there with my family and my 3 years kid in my hand.finally i lost my control i shouted to that bloody persons.also one of the b****y person trying to argue with me.you can check you cc tv (date:19/4/2010 time around 8.30 pm-9.30pm)

please remove such staffs (creaps) and try to appoint good staffs who know how to behave with the customers.

I think it has nothing to do with the nationality. there are some salesmen who are rude in their service. I have faced the same problem in Carrefour. this time the guy was an arabic. I wanted to buy a mobile but i was just asking him to demonstrate or I just want to see the functions but he refused he said you pay them he will do that. but at the same time one arabic coupe came and they ask they same mobile and this guy demonstrated this mobile function and everything to this arabic couple (look like lebanese).

I was quiet frustrated and left the shop and I bought the same mobile from out side.

I mean to say there are rude people everywhere in all fields and in all nationality.

omg, the same thing happened to me when i wanted to buy diamond ring for my mother's 50 years wedding anniversary. i stood there, saying "excuse me, can i have a look at this?" and there were 5 of them, and not one of them came to speak to me. then two ladies in abayas came, and up on their butts they were! heck i was willing to pay whatever just to get my darling mom a goodlooking ring... Damas, in Centerpoint branch.

I bought a pair of simple gold earrings at Damas not too long ago. While paying (cash) I was asked for my mobile number - I asked why? He said it "was required". I asked if I could not buy the earrings without giving my mobile number - OK at this point, I know he's only doing what he has been told, but at least have a reason for it. They took my money I took my earrings and kept my phone number private.

Pi$$ poor service as it took 3 people behind the counter to decide if I could actually make a cash purchase without giving my #.

Probably the only reason I got "away" with it is because I'm a white North American.

just complain to manager if any of the salesman goes wrong...or insults....

last friday happened to me also... i went to al meera... i was there in the bakery for half an hour waiting for the salesman to come... asked other salesmen around, no one replied in positive... i straight went to the supervisor ... complaint him, he came along with me to the bakery... and called some other filipino salesman who was busy on the other stand with the customers...

suddenly the bakery salesman appear and says to supervisor that he was in the bakery... my head just blew up... i shouted at him... 'i m standing over here since half an hour ... neither i saw you, nor you asked me what m i waiting for'.

at last supervisor excused for his silly salesman behaviour... and i left after buying something...

I live in the best of both worlds. By day I wear pretty skirts and high heels, and play with beautiful Peridot GemStone. At home I wear grubby jeans and rubber boots, and play with barnyard animals. New Hampshire is my home, but a part of me will always be in San Martin de los Andes.

I also had a same thing like this at Allukkas jewelry, when i went to buy a neckless with a friend of mine, (2nd march 2008), the salesman might have thought we cann't afford what we were looking for i was wearing some old looking clothes, and was talking nonsence, and to say as a sri lankan - anger is something can not be controlled for a long time .. i gave him a good reply and went to the next shop and bought all the jewelry and guess what we got a good price and i bought jewelry worth of Qr.8000/= approx - (Rs.236000) and when return also gave him a good reply too and the poor guy lost a business worth of Qr. 8000/= ....lolzzz....  (and others...?)

And to say i am also an Salesman from a leading Stationary shop in Markiyya and work here for about 7 years. And never ever had a bad conversation with any nationality, as a salesman i am very proud i havent done such a thing like that stupid guy..........

I find customer service is very poorly implemented all over the businesses in Qatar, one could say there is no customer service at all.

sadly The IMPRESSION "CUSTOMERS ARE ALWAYS RIGHT" does not apply..

Where ever you go, they dont care whether their merchandise sells or not cause they have the notion that somebody else will buy it or they have sold enough for that day, so being rude to one customer doesnt make them go bakrupt. I find it distubing that here customers doesnt have any rights....

Keep it up, i guess they are doing the best....maybe they are also very unhappy customers...

with one shot got two...lucky me

but don worry, i'll go to the shop, specifically ask for this guy Saget or sadat....then ask this and than throwing my wallet out...then... when he responds, I walk off...and repeat again with my friends...

customer is always right...regardless...teach him a lesson or two on racism...

I once saw a guy buying Q.R. 18000, worth of cloth from a shop and then throwing Q.R. 500 as tip to the salesman. The shopkeeper felt that the guy is just window shopping as he looked dusty and sweaty. And the guy thought that the shopkeeper had insulted him by thinking of him as a poor labourer. So in order to preserve his prestige and status and to show them how rich was he, he bought Q.R. 18000 worth of cloth plus he threw a bill of Q.R. 500 at salesman's face.

It was quite a scene.

I've had a similar experience with DAMAS, and I reported the individual (an arab) to the management, and haven't seen him at the stall in Landmark since. I am a regular customer, and haven't ever had problems with any of their other staff.

i think people (sales staff)need to learn that without customers they will not have any paying jobs. even a one riyal sale contributes to a pay check.

It is very important to report all such uncouth and unruly behaviour to the senior management whether it is Damas, Carrefour or Lulu, I have had personal experiences in this regard and have noticed that established organisations do respond positively.Cheers until the next time we get short changed.

i find that most of store staff do something like that and be rude. i always have this problem whenever i go into carrefour to get me n my mate a cola or something like that. i always seem to run into the fact i dont have one riyal but a 100 note and instead of the staff guiding me to a place that has change all they do is just take the drink off the counter and refuse my money. i also get the problem with shop assistants following me about. Im a teen and maybe they think im going to nick somethings so find it neccesary to be my shadow wherever i go.

Eek. I'm sorry to read of your troubles at Lulu. Racial profiling, unfortunately, is a hard topic to change people's minds on. It's maddening to think that you can't do anything about what happened. Well, you tried, but as you said, it's so easy for people to fall into the pattern of thinking that 'nationality #1 did A, so everyone else will too'.

I guess the only thing you can do is not shop there anymore, and tell others about what happened. As you are here.

industry in Doha, and I mean any service industry, be it sales people, waiters, managers, just down right rude.....

and when they are confronted, they shout back. Have you ever... When I was employed as a waitress, if I ever spoke to a patron like that, I would have been fired on the spot.

There is one particular store in CC, that when I go in there I feel like a criminal... the staff follow you around... I know its so they can see if they can help you, but this is after telling them you are just browzing... i deliberately moved my way around the whole shop, and low and behold, the lady followed me... everywhere... it drove me in sane....

I have experience also like this.

The sales told like that, most Indian sales will not willing with others

Nationality ( Philippines,Malaysia,Indonesia etc)

If Arabic,or Indian it self the will serve you like KING even you just

look only.

This word absolutely just push you to buy...

If you don't to buy it's not harm to left it.

Be patient with sales like that

Not only Damas others also...

It is a very poor behaviour from a salesman, especially that DAMAS is quite a reputable jewelry store. Feynmansghost, you did the right thing by complaining to the Manager & sending an email to their management.

We did complain to the manager. The manager spoke to him in their native language so we couldn't understand what was being said. Mr. Sadat was still smirking at us while he was (presumably) being reprimanded by his manager which pissed us off even more.

Anyway, I just want to spread the word so that you too won't be subjected to such boorish behavior.

I have just sent an email to Damas and if you have any similar experiences i suggest that you also send an email to them. The email address is [email protected].

Unfortunately stores have yet to teach their staff how to sell and give good customer service, you really should let the Manager or Owner know they will be losing money due to rude staff. Its harder to sell now due to inflation so they should be pleasant and helpful to everyone.

I feel ashamed to say it, but months back I had a similar experience in Joy Allukkas. That too from my own countreyman, that too when I already have brought some jwellary. The Manager was right there but had done nothing as he was from the same part as that of the salesman...LOL...Well, I can right this 'LOL' now but at that time I was so frustrated at their attitude. Even I swear, never ever in my life I will buy anything from them.
