Room Air Filters HEPA

After much searching we finally found a store that sells room air filters.  My wife has really been bothered by the dust here and we had been looking for a room sized HEPA filter.  We brought a small one one over from the US, but it stopped working after a hour or so (we used a voltage converter, but either it didn't like the cycles here or maybe it was shaken up by the trip).

Unlike the US where every housewares and small appliance place sells air filters, we had a real hard time finding one. The place that sells them is Domasco (Doha Marketing Services Company W.L.L) on the "B" Ring Road (about halfway between Grand Hammad and the Salwa Road).  The storefront has big "SANYO" signs on the street side.  Their website is http://www.locationmapqa.com/pages/domasco/electronics.html but the location map on the site did not point to the showroom we went to on "B" Ring.

The filter we got was a Sanyo ABC HP14, and it cost QR 300 with the filter.  It does not specify that the filter is HEPA, but the Sanyo website http://www.sanyo-biomedical.co.uk/ProdAircleaner.htm states that is is HEPA.  It also has a negative Ion generator.  We also bought an extra replacement filter which was certainly expensive enough (QR 175) to be HEPA.  The filter is supposed to last one to two years, but with the dust here, who knows.

install this HEPA filter in place of the suction filter of an A/C?

I think it'll be great if possible, as A/C has a strong suction power & running 24hrs in summer.

Is this filter come as a sheet/roll or as a cartridge?

I searched the air filter all over tech. shop in Doha & fail to find it. Finally in B ring road, a shop (I forgot the name, but not domasco) told me to go to its main office in industrial area st. no 4. But still have no time to go there.

If you bought a 'HEPA' system for less than 1000 Riyals then you bought a fake.

Not true - Bionaire makes HEPA filters starting at $80. I've been looking for a dealer in Qatar without any luck.  Also. I would think twice before sinking 1500 QR on some LG / Samsung filter. My LG HEPA filtered vacuum cleaner just died on me within the first 3 months.

I looked in Carrefour and did not find any air filters at all.  Will take another look.  Did not check Jumbo though.  I would disagree that "anything less than QR 1000 is a fake."  The one I bought is a room size model and comparably bedroom sized ones usually only cost around $100 or so in the US.  As I said I checked the Sanyo site and it is a HEPA filter.

Carrefour and Jumbo both sell the best Hepa Air Filters money can buy. You cannot get these in North America. They are the LG brand and come in 3 price ranges. The middel price range one costs 1500 Riyals. The Air Filter has a 'sand storm' mode which is perfect for this area.

A casual search is all that is needed to find these filters.

The HEPA filter in these units is WASHABLE!

I have 2 of the LG Platinum Air Cleaner Systems. They also have a negative ion generator AND a PLASMA air disinfectant system.

Anything else is not worth it.  If you bought a 'HEPA' system for less than 1000 Riyals then you bought a fake.

Back in the US we use a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter bag for the carpets (and have avoided carpets in most rooms because they tend to hang onto the allergens).  Regular vacuum bags blow alergens back into the room.  I have no idea if HEPA filter bags are available here.   We don't have any rugs or carpets here, so no vacuuming.

Is this air filter can filter dust generated from carpets.

Can you give details of a filter which suits for home along with cost. My son is alergic to dust. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the info I have an old air cleaner and they no longer distribute them here, I bought all the new filters they had left for the model I have. Also, you are aware that its probably best to keep the air filter in your bedroom as they only work in smaller areas. I have asthma and the dust and smoke and pollution here is a constant struggle. Thanks again.
