Recent home burglary in Doha

I recently joined my husband to live here in Qatar from the US. On August 31, 2008 we arrived in Doha, exhausted from a 23 hour trip from Texas. It was midnight when we cleared customs and caught a taxi from the airport to go "home".

We had several bags which included our 2 laptops in their individual bags. We paid the taxi driver at the front curb (he did not even enter the courtyard)and my husband and I carried our bags in the house.

Sometime between 1:00am and 7:00am, someone had pried open the front door lock, entered the house, walked in and stole the 2 laptops and an additional one that was broken and setting on a chair. Money was also taken from my husband's moneyclip that was setting on the desk.

Luckily, all the other luggage, my purse and my husband's wallet were upstairs. The burglar did not go upstairs. Due to the fact that we were exhausted, we did not hear a thing.

The police were called soon after we realized that we had beeen burglarized. Two police officers came to the house initially and then a CSI team came out to get fingerprints. The police suspected the taxi driver since he had seen what we had and knew that we were exhausted. (We had seen no one else on the street in the wee hours of that morning.) We had retained the taxi receipt with the driver's name and ID number.

The police never contacted us with an update. We have lost so much information forever. We have since gone on with our lives here in Doha, but will be forever cautious and aware of our surroundings.
