Quality vegetables and fruits, where?

Hi everyone. I usually shop at Carrefour, and the quality of the veggies is horrendous. I don`t think I`ve ever managed to find an onion that was fresh and nice! I`ve also tried the smaller Giant stores and a nearby mini-mart, but the quality isn`t much better there. Fortunately I discovered Wafi Gourmet in Landmark, and the quality of the fruits and veggies is just supreme. Spinneys in The Mall is also very good.

However, I`d like to find other places too, as it varies in which area I`m close to. If you have suggestions to any shops in Al Sadd, that would be most appreciated!

So, where do you buy quality fruit and veggies?

I was at FFC Airport Road today too - I just LOVE the fruit and veg there! I even got fresh brussels sprouts and dark cherries today - what a treat! Lebanese nectarines, fresh white onions, mushrooms, chilean apples, brocoli and on and on! Even rambuttan was available to chose pne by one instead of packed. Fabulous! Keep it up FFC! :)))

Quick report from FFC at Airport road; shopped veggies for almost 200 QAR, lol... great selection and good quality, can absolutely recommend this place. Also, they get new products every day. :)

go anywhere (just not to Carrefour) early in the morning, say at 8, and you will be amazed by the freshness of the fruits and veggies on display.

you will get the creme de la creme of what they offer, at the same price. gonig to lulu early is working great for me.

cherukkan, sorry I was thinking of the mall! The Centre, where exactly is this located? Thanks!

I would go to the wholesale market, if it hadn`t been for the road works etc, takes way too long to get around in that area. But thanks for the tip.

Wholesale market opens at 9am for the public now. Before 9am only traders are allowed.

Is the fruit and veggie market now closed to the general public?  I heard a rumour back in May that only wholesalers and retailers were allowed to use it from now on.  I want to go, but with traffic it takes almost 45 minutes to get there.  Not exactly a quick nip to the shops, but well worth it for price and quality if it's still open to the public.  Actually, it's dirt cheap and the quality is amazing.  Plus my 3 year old son is bombarded with free fruit and veg!!  Take your kids if it's still open.  You get free stuff.

The Centre is not a crowded place where you will face parking problem. I dont know where do you live but the Centre is in the middle of the City.

I`ll ask the different stores which day they get their veggies, and plan my weekly purchases after this. :)

Wow you guys are fast! Thanks a lot for all your replies, really appreciate it. When you mention it, Megamart is quite good - I`ve been at the one in Al Messila a few times. Spinneys is good but expensive, so you`re right, I prefer to go elsewhere. :) Will def try FFC, there`s one close to work so will go there today, and also Hyatt (heard before that the center is nice and much more relaxed than Villagio). I hate going to the Center as the parking is a nightmare and it`s a bit far, but thanks for the tip.

The quality of fruits and vegetables is much better in Safeer and FFC as compared to lulu. For other food products lulu is preferable as it is more reasonable as compared to others.

OMG, Spinneys is your choice? Dont tell me that (you will spend more on a product  which you can buy from LULU or FFC). Try Megarmart at the Centre who has got much better quality than Spinneys. Try the Supermarket in Parco Mall at Mamoura if you dont like FFC and LULU.

It's not in Al Saad, but try the larger Giant Stores - eg the one in Hyatt Plaza, next to Villagio. I find them much fresher than anywhere else, and they also last longer. You could try Lulu.... actually, just about anywhere is better than Carrefour!!
