Preparing for Winter in Qatar
If you were in Doha last winter you'll remember how cold it was. People were rushing to buy blankets and heaters which were eventually sold out. All the big supermarkets didn't have stock and people would snatch heaters up whenever they appeared.
Why am I reminding you of this? Well, I was at Carrefoure the other day and walked into the electronics section and saw a whole lot of heaters on display. And people were circling them and buying them up!
So I thought I'd give the Qatar Living community a heads up so you don't freeze in Doha this winter!
This winter has been the coldest I have experienced so far in the Middle East. It's my first year in Qatar but it has been colder here than I experienced previously in Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
Wish I had picked up a couple of those heaters - my place is an icebox at the moment!
how cold DID it get in Doha this winter?
I knew that is a joke!
just when everyone has prepared themselves for winter buying heater, winter is not getting to be like it was expected...
Damn this thread is funny) it's as if it's going to be -30 in doha this winter))
You know the best part? It isn't knowing that your friends have your back. It's knowing that you have your friends' back.
i remember tose days last year we were friiiiiiiiiiizing
but i think this year will not be the same
or that is what i hope
same happening at LULU last night... at any one time you can see 3 carts with a heater.
put 5 in each room just in case
do we have to put one oil heater in each room?
my husband thinks that for big sapces, like our dining/living area, we need to put 2!!!!
any idea???
thanks for the info
thank you for remind us and se you in winter
you have th eoil eaters as well as plain electric coil heaters. oil heaters are much better
Are you talking about Qatar????!!!!
I have a 5 months old baby and after reading all your comments I'm thinking flying home.
It's just you don't have them :P
"the ones my husband bought yesterday at FFC are 1500W and cost QR239 each. They are Black & Decker Oil Radiators" which plug into an electric socket.
However, maybe there are other types of heaters for sale.
Are we talking electric heaters here, or kerosene heaters? Just wondering, as in Japan we had both, although kerosene was clearly the commonly-used type. I am just wondering what to look for and stock up on.
Will also shop for an electric blanket for the bed. I'm really kind of a baby when it comes to being cold...
lol.. so I guess I got paniced..lol...!!
in our country we call it "PANIC BUYING" :-)
"waiting is an art, timing is everyting"
As there were a couple of others asking I thought we could organise one table together.
Excuse me if I broke the thread. Very sorry.
He bought them at Family Food Centre the day after he first spotted them in stock! :D
Yes I did, thanks - I may yet persuade hub to join me but can't confirm until we return from Oman. We are off there tomorrow until 1 November. That may be too late for the tickets, but it can't be helped :(
i will buy as early as now (end of this month)...as i chill easily...and im kind of worried now how to deal with coldness..:/when im freakin cold, i move less..means i will just stay in one corner..:P

..."purchasing fever"? or how would you call it?..lol..
Die he also buy those in Carrefoure, and did you receive my mail regarding the ball.
the ones my husband bought yesterday at FFC are 1500W and cost QR239 each. They are Black & Decker Oil Radiators.
He said they also had 2000W and 2700W, but seems to think the 1500W are sufficient for our needs. We shall see :P
thanks Canary...lol....
You are of course welcome to come.
Yes I will do it again this year because it was nearly all my Muslim friends who came to celebrate with me and we had a lot of fun. This year There will be something elso for me to celebrate to so I am looking forward to this.
Perhaps I will have a heater this year if I can find one.
are you going to have a Christmass dinner this year again? if yes, count me in...I even can bring my own blanket if there is a lack of them...lol..

I used to go to the dolomites for two weeks every February it was great fun and I always lost quite a bit of weight during that time\
I was looking forward to jogging in winter in skimpy shorts and singlet...
Yes, it's fun but nothing beats the swoosh, swoosh of zipping through REAL snow with the sun on your face and then a hot chociolate waiting for you at the bottom :)_______________________________________________________
Love is the answer...
What about Qatar following suit to Dubai and create artificial slopes. I saw them on the news the other day looked like they were having fun.
On Christmas I had 20 people over for dinner (Turkey etc.) and we were all sitting huddled together to keep ourselves warm the whol evening, even though we had blankets. lol
QATAR - this December is all set to create another record for Doha with the HIGHEST RAINFALL IN THE PAST 42 YEARS, following incessant rains on the 7th. The total rainfall received this month till date has been 25mm, which is a record over the past 42 years. The country normally receives an average of 13mm rains in December every year.

Yes, everyone should get 'heatered up' before it's too late. Or have lots of winter clothes at the ready. Yay! Love dressing for winter. Now if only it would snow here then I would be zipping down the slopes in my element.
And Owen, watch out for snow avalanches...they can kill a person.

get the heater from wherever you want... even from Honolulu.. just get it...lol...
No WAY was hub gonna spend the night in a hot bath the way he did last year lmao
And before you ask, no, it isn't big enough for two!
:P
You want me to get one Heater from India?????????
you will get cold, trust me, specially at home.. no matter what temperature is.. so better hurry up and get some heater.. last winter was a nightmare...canarybird, I also couldn't get any heater in whole Doha.. thanks my friends, they helped me with whatever they could.. some of them even offered me themselves to warm me, since there are no heaters around...lol...
Thank you good news as I did look for a heater last year and could not get one. I have looked off and on for a heater but never seen any.
What will be the Temperature over there in Doha in Winter?
I remember people were buying the heaters off the trucks...They wouldn't even wait till they put them on display!!!!!!!!
A steady fall in maximum and minimum temperatures in the coming days. The northwesterly-northeasterly winds may also gain momentum, which means that Qatar is inching towards winter!!!
I just heard that the coming winter would be much colder compared last time due to global warming ;)
But I am more interested with the winter clothes SALE!!! Anybody have an idea when it will be and where??? :D
