Pepsi & Coke are 1.5 Riyals now!

The Observer
By The Observer

Hi All,

This is my 1st post in this most famous english website in Qatar!

Starting from March a supermarket surprised me by saying "(Sadeek) All Pepsi is now 1.5 riyal!" I was surprised not becasue of this 50% increase but becasue of that this particular commodity has always been sold at 1 Riyal since I was a kid here in Doha (for 25 years!) and believe it or not, just a couple of days before knowing of this increase I was saying to myself when I was drinking a Merinda "oh! this is the only good that had steady price since ages! its cheaper in Qatar than in many poor countries!" and I was wondering why? and how come they still didn't rise its price! suddenly the other day it became 1.5 and some funny markets said its 1.25 but he don't have .25 to retairned to u!

Yeah I know that 1/2 riyal is not much but its annoying!

I want every one of you to tell me what was the situation when he knew the new price of this? and what do he think about it? is it ok?

You're wrong, the worst thing is not that they don't ask you if it's ok, but that they won't accept the bubble gum as sutible for payment:(

good news but ironically the ministry should foucs in preventing the rase of other more importnant goods and resturants! why did they just concentrated it the poor pepsi & Coke! I bet these 2 companies are angry becasue the ministry prevented them and left all the other goods in the markets!

propeply now the companies will product less concentrated Cola to make profits!

I am lucky that i left to Drink any kind of soft drink before 4/5 years ago. I don't really like them anymore.

So i don't have to buy them. But it's really sad that it raises 50% at one time. The world's economy is down so the price should be down. I don't understand why the price of everything is becoming raising instead of decreasinG!!! Can anyone explain it???

So lets all just go to FFC and stock a bunch of these drinks.

Half a Riyal might not sound bad... but hey, 50% is BIG! I don't want any of those yucky gums.

i don't think they have enough coins circulating here in Qatar. I remember collecting batook bubble gum in exchange of 50 dirhams... The bad thing there is shopkeepers don't even bother to ask if it's ok..

Dudes!

I didn't expected all these replies in my 1st topic!

Regarding the error in the word COKE am sorry for that I wrote this topic last thing before I went to bed after a long day! thanks for the admin who fixed the error!

The big bottle of water costes 1.5 and its a fair price and nothing in prices here stays fair so it will soon be 2 QR! and the pepsi will not stay 1.5 for long! its just a step to jump to the steady 2 QR!! yes I garantee you that in less than 2 years pepsi will be 2 QR! cause 1.5 is annoying and won't stay for long!

Regrding the pepsi means " pay every .... " its rediculas and doesn't make any scence! One can make 100 sentenses and pretend that it is what is meant by letters of PEPSI!

Regarding the crisis I thought prices should go down not up! cause that is the point of the crisis it happenes eery couple of years to neutralize the inflation!

sorry for the long reply and for any typo-errors!

Thanks for your replies.

friends very soon we will see prices rising for alot of products in Doha...basically the global economical problem has not hit every country..its just the biggest bank on which american economy was dependent went bankcrupt itself which basically shook american economy...and the rumours were spread in the market that the whole world is going to deal with economical issues...this was a rumour willingly spread by some high level authorities and it has worked...america has no natural resource to depend on so they were dependent on their currency and that bank which was bankrupt... do u ppl think that the earth has stopped its resources for us?? no the production level is same for all natural resources...its just a very well planned rumour...if in reality we see,we will come to know that the global economical problem has affected our minds more then the real market...wakeup fellows

It seems that you have to go to the malls to buy Bebsi :( I was at LuLu and the price fixed there was only 1Q.R ... it's not a matter of the 50 drhms, we used to pay 1500 for the same accommodation we are paying now 6500. The problem is in the increment that got everything except the salaries ...

Pepsi name was chosen because it reflected phonetically the sound of a can being opened, the sound "Pop" "Schi", was condensed and simplified in the name "Pepsi".

From Wikipedia

Coca — Cocaine

Pemberton called for five ounces of coca leaf per gallon of syrup, a significant dose; in 1891, Candler claimed his formula (altered extensively from Pemberton's original) contained only a tenth of this amount. Coca-Cola did once contain an estimated nine milligrams of cocaine per glass, but in 1903 it was removed.[25] Coca-Cola still contains coca flavoring.

After 1904, instead of using fresh leaves, Coca-Cola started using "spent" leaves—the leftovers of the cocaine-extraction process with cocaine trace levels left over at a molecular level.[26] To this day, Coca-Cola uses as an ingredient a cocaine-free coca leaf extract prepared at a Stepan Company plant in Maywood, New Jersey.

In the United States, Stepan Company is the only manufacturing plant authorized by the Federal Government to import and process the coca plant.[27] Stepan laboratory in Maywood, New Jersey is the nation's only legal commercial importer of coca leaves, which it obtains mainly from Peru and, to a lesser extent, Bolivia. Besides producing the coca flavoring agent for Coca-Cola, Stepan Company extracts cocaine from the coca leaves, which it sells to Mallinckrodt, a St. Louis, Missouri pharmaceutical manufacturer that is the only company in the United States licensed to purify cocaine for medicinal use.[28] Stepan Company buys about 100 metric tons of dried Peruvian coca leaves each year, according to Marco Castillo, spokesman for Peru's state-owned National Coca Co.[29]

By anonymous• 10 Mar 2009 10:11

coke contains coca leaf extract which contains cocaine naturally but the process is carefully treated to extract the cocaine alkaloids from the leaves but some say it cannot be extracted all thats why coke is addictive lols and this process is being monitored by DEA.

Good Lord up in heaven, i know you are looking down on us all and having a good laugh, i'm sure it pleases u to know we must now pay that extra .50 dhs for that bebsi, or that extra 1 riyal for the pack of smokes. I really dont know what message you are trying to send here. Give us today our daily bread, khaboos will do too, and please let it still be 1 riyal a packet.
