Paid parking at City Center

hassan1024
By hassan1024

Been hearing that City Center is to implement paid parking from July 1 onwards. Anyone have more details? From what I saw, everything seems to be in place, the ticket dispensers, the payment machines and all.

He has also taken a Karak Chai franchise to cater for those drivers stuck in the exit line waiting to pay..

It will be additional cost for a mommy like me :( Even if the shops will validate the tickets and pay for the 1st hour, it will not be enough for shopping and dining. I'd rather go to Vilaggio and Landmark.

The New Car Park System estimated to be implemented on 1st July 2011

Of course, first week trial will be FREE of charge to familiarize the vistors to the system. Later, below charges will be as follows:

1st hour (2 Qrs.)

2nd hour (3 Qrs.)

3rd hour (3 Qrs.)

From then on... Further hours (10 Qrs.) each.

It's about time and I think it's more than fair. Those of you who still want to use up a space for a whole day and leave other in endless search for a space can now either PAY for your carelessness or go by TAXI! This will certainly reduce the congestion but will it be enough? we shall see.

By britexpat• 22 Jun 2011 09:32
britexpat

I believe that now since people are getting used to paying for parking at areas such as Souq Waqif, it will be easier to implement at CC.

all shoppers will surely go to Villagio.

NO parking fee.

Same Shops.

Luxury Shops.

etc..

Much better than stay in city center and waste money on parking fees.

Cost of watching a 3 hour Indian movie + dinner or window shopping

1st hr = 2 QR

2nd hr = 3 QR

3rd hr = 3 QR

4th hr = 10 QR

parking costs = 18 qr..

Cost of watching a 2 hour English movie + dinner or window shopping

1st hr = 2 QR

2nd hr = 3 QR

3rd hr = 3 QR

parking costs = 8 qr..

the time required to find a parking has not been taken into consideration.

26 or 24 if the ticket is validated by the shop.

So if you go for a movie, you will be charged at least 6 riyals for parking.

Or if you have a game of ice hockey or bowling - you will still have to cough out more money.

Haven't been to City Center in nearly two years, precisely because of the atrocious parking and how frustrated I get. There is nothing there I can't find someplace else, so I choose to not even deal with the hassle.

Ditto for going to ANY of the malls after 2:00 on a weekend. I just refuse to do it because getting in and out of the parking lots (let alone driving around hunting for a space) becomes an exercise in futility.

I happily pay a bit extra and do most of my shopping online and ship stuff into Qatar to save myself the aggravation (added bonus: online prices are cheaper AND they usually have everything I want in stock!).

I'm glad they're trying to improve the situation, but I'd prefer to see them work harder on preventing parking problems in the first place. Maybe the municipality could issue more ample parking guidelines so that adequate parking facilities and spaces are built into future project's plan from the get-go.

Bottom line: it's not rocket science. They should be able to figure it out better than they have.

By tryke• 21 Jun 2011 09:44

correct me if i am wrong please... so let's say if i stayed for 5 hrs, the computation will be:

1st hr = 2 QR

2nd hr = 3 QR

3rd hr = 3 QR

4th hr = 10 QR

5th hr = 10 QR

TOTAL = 28 QR... so shall i pay 28 QR for 5 hrs????

Good news for shoppers and those who do not work in the towers around city center and park their cars in City Center.

Validation machine - hmmm so the employees would still park their cars and validate their tickets. Hope they have a control on that.

But seriously, the issue arises on account of lack of parking spaces for the bldgs around west bay - for a young developing city that is a serious oversight.

By anonymous• 21 Jun 2011 09:12

According to a circular issued

to the tenants of the mall, the

parking fee has been fixed at QR2

for the first hour, QR3 for the second

hour, QR3 for the third hour

and QR10 each for every hour

thereafter

Besides, tenants can buy a

‘validation machine’ for QR5,000

which will enable them to validate

customers tickets for one

hour free parking as a customer

service, the circular added.

thats all about free parking. On an average it would take you more than an hour to do your shopping and come back to your car. this will not help out. moreover, if the first hour is free, would the billing start at QR2 or QR3 for the next hour?

@tryke

1st hour - QR 2

2nd hour - QR 3

3rd hour - QR 3

Subsequent hours - Qr 10 each.

Just hearsay, though.

@baldrick & s_isale - I read that the shops can validate your parking ticket and pay your first hour for you. But they'll have to buy a maching for that.

earlier the plan was to bill only those who dont purchase anything from city center. Now if you dont get a parking lot and is forced to run around to get a parking, you will be billed irrespective of the fact that you are exiting due to lack of parking space.

By flor1212• 21 Jun 2011 08:39

so employees will look for other spaces to park their car the whole day and leave nothing to customers!
