No Decent Eggs in Doha
Why oh why is it so hard to get decent eggs. Megamart used to sell good quality British eggs which were fresh but no more.
The alternatives are freaky Lebanese eggs (produced over a month ago and of completely varying sizes in the box) or those Omega eggs which taste like fish.
yes Carrefour sells free range ones but you can never be sure when they were produced, last time I looked, some of them were over 2 months old. gross And don't even think about those where are 24 to the tray at next to no cost, god alone knows how well those chickens were treated who produced them.
Any thoughts as to where to go now for good eggs?
Where can I find pasture raised chicken eggs? (Not free-range)
sakaera - will do, do you have a farm that I can keep them on, nowhere near any other house, so no one can hear them, if so, glad to do it.
Go with mm comment. Get a hen and a cock. Eggs will come.
I have lived here a long time and there was not a problem till the new year, when the only source of decent eggs disappeared.
So, from everyone's sarcastic comments, we are happy to eat stale, if not to say potentially illness giving eggs, oh well, seems it is just me.
I find it hard to credit, that we can buy so many (not needed) designer goods but no fresh free range eggs nor free range chickens, seems mighty odd to me.
And MM, have you heard the noise they make, I am sure my neighbours would have something to say about that.
Keep a dozen hens in your yard .............. no issues at all ............... ..............................
Take a look at dohanews.co they ran a recent item on buying fresh eggs near the wholesale market last week

To solve your issue, import them, surely Fedex and DHL can handle your needs. Take care.
Nice to see your generalizations and assumptions. I don't think it is unreasonable, when paying 20QAR for 6 eggs to expect that they have been produced in the last week.
I also don't want to use/eat the other eggs as they taste like fish and quite frankly, do you want to eat cake that taste like fish, which is what happened the last time I baked using them?
And yes, a lot of westerners are concerned about eating food that might make them ill, funny that.
Back to my question, does anyone know where free range or decent eggs that can be purchased that are not over 1 week old?
I have been eating eggs for over decades now and this the first time I have come across where someone has been so sensitive on the freshness of eggs. That is because you are from the west. If you would be from the east, shopkeepers would be laughing at you if would ask them of the expiry date of an egg. Possibly, you may even get a couple of them thrown at your face straightaway should you ask them this questions. There are thousands of eggs consumed each day in countries like India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Philippines, where no one ever bothers about when the egg was laid and when it would expire.
Actually this is a problem if you are eating old eggs. Have you ever heard of a serious illness called Salmonella which you can get from eating poor quality eggs and one way to ensure that you are at least risk is if you eat fresher eggs with a good provenance.
I am glad to see that you clearly wish to eat poor quality produce at the very least, if not risk your health - but you know what, that is your right, as it is my right to ask a reasonable question.
You should return to your country immediately as this could be serious problem for you here. Suggest, you try living near a poultry farm so that when a hen lays an egg, you can just run over fast and get a hold of it. In that way you will get the freshest eggs ever!!
