Iphone courier from US to qatar: is it safe?
By riding-high •
I am about to order at Apple's online store the factory unlocked Iphone 4S 16GB ($649 + $57 tax), which they will send to my brother in the US. I have asked him to courier it to me (Fedex/DHL?).
Having read various conflicting views here, I want an assurance that it will shipped safely to me in Doha, and that it will not be stolen by a courier company employee or something. Has anyone else had a safe experience getting an electronic shipped in from the US (or elsewhere)? Any idea about estimated courier charges from the US? What is the courier company's liablities in case of the shipment getting stolen? Any advice would be really helpful.
apple just cancelled my order. I had opened an aramex account, and gave them my aramex US (NY) address to ship to. They said they don't have a policy of shipping to int'l freight forwarders (like aramex). phew.
I guess i will now have to order again from apple, ask them to ship to my brother in Dallas, who will then ship it to my account in Aramex NY, who will then ship it to Aramex Doha. Phew ... this is annoying... the gift card is becoming a bane rather than a boon...:)..any takers? hehe
as per our personal experience, yes it is safe. 2 weeks ago, my friend send my brother iphone4s from US through Fedex and we received it within 3days.. our friend paid USD 140 there. We dint paid any amount when we receive the box.
Oh, I'm sorry, I haven't seen that it's only a gift voucher. Well, in that case, you have no choice but to wait for the said item.
and qatar786, you're right!
If I were you, I'd rather buy the iPhone 4s from here if the amount discrepancy is roughly QAR 350 only. Hassle free, less head ache, and you don't need to worry about the signal...
fifteen there is no problem with the signal coz phone is factory unlock. qatar is expensive compare to other countries, electronic stuff are expensive here.
iphone 4s only AED 2600 in dubai..

As long as Apple provides you reference number to track your shipment you can provide Aramex (your Shop and Ship) address directly to Apple. You will get your item safely but a little slow. I have used it only for one time and if you need the item urgently within 3-4 days I won't recommend Aramex.
riding high yes u can.
well the main reason for me getting it from the US is coz I got an Apple Gift Card that I won in a lucky draw at the World Petrloeum Congress (for $650). This Gift card, that came in from the US, can only be redeemed for purchases in the US.
In any case, the US Iphone costs $706 or QR2,570 versus the QR2,999 offered by vodafone qatar. Still quite a gap even if you factor in the QR200 courier costs.
tcom is right..
Why go through all these hassles buy it locally.
Thanks guys. I just phoned a few courier companies. It takes QR 275 to get it shipped. But with Aramex, its QR 160 for opening the account, and QR 41 to ship it from US to Doha.
Qatar786, when I buy from apple online, can I ask them to ship directly to my new aramex address/account in US, rather than ship it to my brother in the US first? saves a step, but I am not sure if Apple ships to such courier addresses.
as long you won't declare it as brand new! or indicate that it is a used gift electronic the courier wont charge you that much.
ya aramex is gud, open an account they wil charge you like 150QR.then they will give u us,uk and china address then tell ur brother to send it to that particular us address which aramex has given to u. den they will bring the package to u.normally they will charge u 41QR for 500g(0.5kg).It takes them a week to bring to qatar.
Aramex is well known and trusted
